DIY Remove Headliner

Gen 4

Tools Required

Flathead Screwdriver

Phillips Screwdriver

Containers/ Zip loc bags (to hold parts)

Electrical Tape(optional)

Essentially the headliner is held in my all the things that are in the headliner. So the visor, dome light and sunglass/remote holder. Also there are clips on the sides.

The first steps don’t really have much of an order, just have to get them all done.

  • Remove the grab handles. The sides of the handles are covered, the covers can be easily removed by simply pinching and removing. What’s left is this.

The screws don’t have to come out all the way for the handle to come out, its easy to leave them in so they don’t get lost.

These screws were on really tight, so I rigged up a screw driver and vise grip for the extra leverage.

Proceed to remove all 3

  • Remove the Sunglass/Remote Holder. This is an easy one. Open up and remove the 2 screws
  • Remove the 2 visors. The was an interesting one for me. First on the main base pry up the cover. Work it around so that it comes off.

As the visor pull off you will see a cable come out that is for the light. The clip is kind of weird. The plug is round and on the sides has 2 flaps that you have to pull up in order to release the wires.

From there wrap some e-tape around one of the wires to prevent contact.

  • The visor clips have one screw on the underneath of them. Once that is out pull directly out, they still have clips on them so you will need to tug.

  • Next take out the dome light. The side of the lens that is not at the controls has a little tab to insert a flat head and pry it out. Underneath are 3 screws.

  • From there, work you hands to take out the top of the the 3 pillars. I started in the back because I knew my way around the C pillars. Once those are dangling out the entire headliner will begin to drop. Work it out from under the pillars and it should rest on the front seats.

I found that it was best then to work it out one of the back seat doors, take your time. Dont wanna mess the headliner up
End Result

Is this the only way to change the Dome light bulb and map light bulbs, by removing the whole headliner??

I want to change my Dome light bulb and map light bulbs to White LEDs, can i just some how remove the Covers?

Are you removing the headliner to replace it or mod it or what?

Thanx

To replace the dome, use a flat head screw driver, look closely for a slot on the lense, and pry it off. Simple.

OMG!!! ok, i thought it would be EASY to take out the headliner from the car, but pulling it out was easy, then taking it out from the car another story!

but yeah, re-do my headliner today, took me over 1.5hr just to figure out a way to take the headliner from the car door. Had to remove the front seats.....

but thanks for the DIY!
