In sweeneyp thread on DIY: Replacing Rear Bank VVT-I Oil Line.......

In photos, the all metal hose looks to me a smaller diameter than the rubber one. Is it? Will this inhibit oil flow? Also, A Toyota dealer said the all metal hose is for the Siena van, not the Highlander. I know its the same engine, but he said its still not for the Highlander.

Any comments from people that have changed this hose?

My 2008 shows that the original hose was replaced with "revised" rubber hose around 60K. Are there any reports of the revised hose, actually failing? I know the all metal hose gives a better piece of mind and is cheap to change.

Revised hoses are failing.

Metal line can be adapted to any year 2gr-fe that came with the rubber hose.

Dealer can only do what Toyota allows. Toyota repairs on the cheap with rubber hose.

Inside diameter is the same.

If equipped with rubber oil cooler hose, the newer metal oil cooler line can be used as a reliable upgrade too.

Upgrade both the VVT and oil cooler when possible to avoid two cost cutter points of failures.

Thanks. I only have the one VVT hose on mine. Just ordered the metal. The online Toyota dealer jut wanted me to know it does not show for the highlander.

Oil cooler hose only present with tow packages.
