Man, I may have been laboring under a misconception all of these years.

What, exactly, is a Hilux?

I bought my pickup in '92 (see signature block for specifics on the truck). It was the cheapest Toyota p/u you could buy then (got it new for about $7K, that included factory air, but the truck has no other options). I've never heard it referred to as a "Hilux."

QUESTION: Is my pickup considered a Hilux, or is a Hilux another type of truck altogether.

Correct me if I am mistaken, but I believe our pickups are branded Hilux outside of North America.

the hilux name in north america was short lived they changed the name to Truck or Pick up but outside the US it remained Hilux. so if u wanna be badass call your truck a hilux:p

OZ Hilux

Hey Digger1,
I'm in Australia, and I drive a '99 4x4 3.0LD DC Hilux. From what I can see, apart from a few cosmetic parts, a Tacoma is a Hilux. As for a Bad Ass, well I want to get hold of some Tacoma badges and parts so I can be a "Bad Ass", not realy, I just like to be different.

Digger,

The picture you've got with the  under your name has always cracked me up. What are you doing there?
Pete
Hi Pete,

Sorry for the delay in answering you....I've been out of town a lot these past ten months.

You see, for a living, I ride my motorcycle all over the country, speaking at schools, universities, companies, and special events. I'm a former astronaut and I speak about how important it is for young Americans to seek technical educations. Anyway, to answer your question, my avatar shows me on a motorcycle we had built for us by the gang on the American Chopper television show. It is a special Space Shuttle Tribute Bike. The picture was taken at the official unveiling of the bike at Space Center Houston in Houston, TX, during August 05.

We intended to use the bike to raise funds for a scholarship fund we wanted to start. However, about $40K of our donations fell through and, last I heard, the American Chopper guys still had the bike.:disappoin Too bad....the bike rocked!

Sigh.

I hope this answers your question.
