Question? Do any Tacomas come with a Limited Slip rear Differential from the factory other than an X-Runner? Specifically the 4x4 & Pre Runner? And the other question...... If I consider a TRD-Offroad if it has the locker does it become an LSD when the locker is not engaged or is it a typical Open/ Diff?

Any help appreciated.

Dude, check Toyota's website. The TRD Sport comes with a LSD. It's part of that option package.

Yeah, my pre runner did. It works great. It kicked in a couple of times.

He is right, I have a TRD Sport with LSD. It is pretty nice to have in the winter. My road is never plowed and it helps in a couple of spots. I can tell when it is kicking in because on a corner it bounces my back end a little.

Yea I have the SR5 package with 4WD and I also have an LSD it's fun to leave 2 lines on the pavement. :D

The LSD comes standard on the X-Runner and TRD Sport packages and can be added as an extra option for $900 to the SR5 package whether it's a 4x4 or a Pre-Runner it doesn't matter they both can have it added to the package. The TRD Off-Road does not come with an LSD it comes with a Locker and therefore cannot have an LSD, There is not enough space inside the rear differential to fit Locker and LSD parts so it's ether one or the other.

Build a Taco on the Toyota website and figure out what options you need to get one.

Normally I would do that but I'm debating a TRD/OR and really wanted to know if it still has the LSD feature when not in full/ lock mode. Thanks to this wonderful thread got plenty of great answers to my question. The "Build-a-truck" method would not have told me that.

Buy a tacoma without anything in it..and put one of these in:

Actually, I'm not sure they even have one for the tacoma yet. It's supposed to be a limited slip controlled by vehicle data from the computer. And from what I see - it can be setup to act as a fulltime locker also. Pretty neat. I'll bet it costs an arm and a leg!
