So, I love the automatic high beams with a few minor exceptions. I live in the mountains and they aren't that great at staying off when there's a car in front of me and we are going around curves, they switch from low/high/low/high constantly...

However, I've noticed that my Venza apparently has a built-in attitude...

1st Instance:

Coming up to a T intersection, car turns towards me with their high beams on, my car switches to low beams but then goes back to high beam and stays there (oncoming car never dimmed their lights).

2nd Instance:
Coming up to the same intersection on a different evening, exact same thing happens...

I'm beginning to think it's something to do with the angle of ascent/descent and their lights just aren't hitting my sensor... But then...

3rd Instance:

Driving down 2 lane road, car coming towards me with their high beams on, my car switches to low beams for a second or two, but then goes right back to high beam and stays there because the oncoming vehicle never dimmed their lights.

So I'm now confident that my car is thinking to itself that if they are going to blind me with their headlights, it's going to give it right back to them...

Anyone else experienced/noticed this?

I don't drive ours enough to answer your specific question.

But, we drive on curvy mountain roads and I am unable to predict when they will come on and shut off.

At times, I will manually turn them off only to have them turn back on quickly. It may seem like I'm flashing my lights at the driver.

I wish Toyota would allow users to go into an advanced settings manual to fine tune settings for various features. I'd like a minimum toggle setting that can be set for X number of seconds between switching to On from off.

Yes, I realize I can press a button to turn the feature off.

I agree, the ability to set some kind of delay would be nice. To me, the button is in a very inconvenient spot.

I don't bother with them on my 21 Venza. They require constant intervention both to stop blinding oncoming driver's eyes, and to turn them back on when conditions are suitable. I'd say the system gets it right somewhere between 50 and 60% of the time.

The automatic highbeams on my 21 Mazda are almost perfect. It's very rare that I have to intervene. The bonus with Mazda"s premium headlight system that AHB comes with, turns the headlights into the curve, according to input from the steering wheel. What can I say? It's awesome to not have blind curves at night.

I have no problems with the auto high beams it work great but if I have the back loaded a little, I get the high beams from 30% of the on coming vehicles while I'm on low beams..... must be set too high and or the soft suspension raises them to cause this.
