Today i'm just checking for any leaks on my corolla and i notice something wired about the release nut of the belt tensioner which is some material chipped off as shown on the photo, i don't how it happened and also Does it need to worry about it?
My concern is when i'm going to change the drive belt in the future, the nut will snap off

Plenty of meat left on that nut for a socket to grab. Always recommend using 6 point sockets for 6 point fasteners and you'll never have an issue.

Do you have any clue how this happened ? Is it normal to chip off like that ?

My guess would be someone doing work down in the engine probably hit it with a wrench or ratchet or something on the way in or out or both. Probably not on purpose, likely just trying to shove a tool down there. Or they had a socket/wrench on that nut but didn't have it on all the way when they tried to loosen it.

Part casting irregularities. The socket doesn’t sit on that spot. Doesn’t look to be used much. Not stripped.

I had the exact thing when I used a 12-point socket to change the belt. It snapped off and sent me flying. Yet, it still worked using that 12-point and looked WAAAY worse than yours

You’re fine as long as the nut doesn’t break off. When you replace the belt tensioner, you’ll get a new cast one. Best to use a 6 point socket.
