Dual exhaust?

2032 Views 28 Replies 16 Participants Last post by  88 LE
Hey i know im a noob but i need a lil help. I have a 2000 camry with the little 2.2 and i have a question. I know i have to have a custom exhaust made for it but i was wondering. Would it hurt anything if it had dual exhaust. I know it would not give me anymore power i dont think. But i do like the way i looks so what is everyones opinion????? Thanks in advance for everyones time and respones.

some people consider it ricey to mod a I4 with dual exhaust, but hey, its your car so do what makes you happy. i know with the gen 3 cam the spare wheel well needed "adjusting" to make room for the second pipe, but im not to sure for the gen 4s
i was just thinking about doing a dual exhaust yes but a subtle one no big huge mufflers or anything.............will it hurt anything???
ive had no problems with them on my gen 3 and i love'm, go for it, check my www for pics
I think I saw someone with the extreme rear bumper with dual exhausts, I'm still debating whether i want it or not... it looks nice depending on the tips i guess
you must be talking about paradise............

His gen4 does look hot with dual exhaust.
if later you start thinkin about putting a kit on your car, dual exhaust might be the way to go because most mufflers come with dual openings for exhaust...i have a catback done for my gen3 2.2 and its fine...its all up to you...you are gonna spend more money

Not entirely. It depends on where you want the pipes to exit. I worked with some guys and we ran duals down the sides of the spare tire hold and straight out the back. No problems, and it looked great. Now if you have a body kit, that is a different story. You would then have to route them to match the kits exit points. Which would take some adjustments (cutting).

Mufflers with dual out lets are not made as a splitter for running dual. They are made to have dual tips. Much like V6 Camrys. So Splitting them off of that would not sound very good.

They do make resonators (keep in mind not all resonators are like the one on your own car) that you can place just after the t manifolds. They were originally designed for muscle cars that ran side pipes, but they have now spread into the import world.

A single split muffler sadly won't fit under Camrys do to the placement of the gas tank. You pretty much have to place the muffler right before the rear bumper. Unless you want to get into some major custom work.

If you like the dual look (which i also do), I say do it. The only thing I would worry about, is the sound you would get coming off a 4cyl. If you are running a true dual, you would only have 2 cyl on each pipe, And that will give you a sound similar to a motorcylce. If you are just running a Y-pipe, you will still get the same affect, just not so noticable. So you may want to consider how it will sound before doing it.

Good luck:)

dual exhaust on any camry is gay
First, watch your language.
Second, what your doing is considered post whoring, and is not permitted on this forum.

If you had some valid reason why he should not get it besides general dislike, then people would be glad to hear it. But in this case, you opinion is unwanted.

and finally i AM voicing my opinion
if you know anything about the import scene (which i dont think you do) youd know why not to do dual exhaust on a camry...
too many god damn ricers on this site who think they know it all
if a moderator has a problem with me, they can talk to me in pm, but i dont appreciate you saying my opinion isnt wanted when it goes against what youd like to hear

i know you?
If you do it, please do it properly, you can lose hp and performance due to the lack of the backpressure that is created with the single exhaust.

One thing you might want to do is check out performance muffler shops... they can give you a better idea of what you can and can't do.

Also look into the muffler on a Vette, they are small enoguh for you to run duals.

Before I trade off the 01 for the ES we had welded it in place directly ahead of the spare tire and that worked well....

which ever way your gonna go there is gonna be alot of custom piping that is gonna be needed.

Right now is the planning stages of running duals on the ES coming out the sides so if you have questions contact me

HoeBag, running duals on a Camry if done right will look nice... there is a thread where I asked for someone to pshop them on a 4 gen on the sides before the rear wheels and they look nice
