I need some helpful advice. I gave my daughter my 2000 Toyota Echo a few years back. By far the best car that I have ever owned. The last few months we have sunk over 1000.00 in repairs. Mainly stuff that will go wrong with a car with almost 300,000. Now I am now having air issues. I am not ready to give up on the car.

It started that the blower just didn't seem as high and it wasn't cooling. All of the speeds work and the freon level is perfect. Now the blower just stops at all speeds. It will eventually come back on with the not cooling issue.

What would be your thoughts? Resistor? Seems like it would still work at lower speeds. Blower? Relay? Dumb question on the relay. I have looked in the box next to the engine. Is that where it should be? What is it named? I am sure that she could live without air, but the blower really needs fixed.

Thanks!

Yes, I would check the blower motor resister. Fuses are located in engine compartment as well as under the steering wheel in the cubby storage area that my girlfriend puts all her hairpins in (sigh).

This might not matter, but I will tell you anyway since it was responsible for seizing the a/c compressor in our echo a few years ago--check/change the cabin air filter (behind lower glove box)! It's like the same thing on a home a/c--if you never change the filters, it causes the compressor to work extra hard and also reduces airflow.

Keep me posted--And good luck.

I forgot who it was, it's not showing up on this thread anymore..there was a reply after mine, but they're prob. right it could be the blower motor itself. Follow that link to the troubleshooting guide to troubleshoot/weed out the faulty component(s). You might have to manually navigate to the corresponding pages (i.e. not the published section link url) to any given section to troubleshoot that component(s)/problem(s).

Thank you! I will keep you informed. I checked the cabin air filter and there isn't one there. I wonder if there ever was or maybe they left it out if they did work previously. I will have to maybe tackle the blower motor on the weekend when I have more time. Also, thank you for the links to the manuals!

you're welcome. it's actually one of the first links (#3) if google "echo service manual".

When you fixed it, goto autozone/kragen/pep boys or wherever and spend the $11 for a new cabin filter. yeah it was probably pulled and not replaced out of laziness or diagnoses (still laziness, lol).. Luckily I don't suffer from allergies, but all that pollen/dust going into the car without that filter..yuk--and I detail my car maybe once every 15 years, hahah.

OK, good luck. Following those troubleshooting steps will test out each component to determine if blower motor, relay, or something god knows what else, lol, will also allow to you test bypassing and hook direct to help narrow it down. Take care.
