Eclipse units + Steering wheel Contol?

i tried searching this but i guess i don't have the keywords down. Does anyone know from personal experience that eclipse's head units support our steering wheel controls by just plugging in the stock harness? What about the lower end basic ones without the fancy navi stuff? Seems too good to be true...

I can tell you that my avn5500 works just fine with the steering wheel controls. It was just a plug and play deal. I would think that even the non navi units would be the same, but could not garuantee it.
Unless you get a unit thats a few years old, then the steering wheel controls will plug in. From what I've seen, only double din units have the steering wheel control inputs. My AVN-6600 has them. I don't think the cheaper units, or single din units have the steering wheel control inputs.
Any confirmation if this works with the 5510/6610?
^yes, i'm pretty sure it does
What about the AVN2210P, the one with the detachable tom tom?
I seem to remember seeing something about this before but can't find the thread. Does anyone know if its possible to get steering wheel controls on a truck without them from the factory?

I know certain aftermarket head units have a remote that can be mounted on the wheel, but is there any way to get the factory controls into a truck without them? I seem to remember airbags being an issue.

Not trying to thread jack, we'll consider it an ancillary topic.:D

My 6610 just plugged into all the stock wiring. But I think the 5500 and 5510 are different.

Not sure. You might have to call Eclipse for that one. Or take a picture of the back of a 2210 and show me.
Thanks PB. If I end up buying one I'll do just that.
Yes. The 6610 and 5510 have all the same hook ups as the 6600 and 5500. My 6610 just plugged into all the stock wiring.

The only wiring you have to do is for the VSS wire, Backup wire, and parking brake.
Sweet. I know whats next for my truck. :naughty:
08 Sr5 w/Eclipse 2210p

New to the forum as I just got my taco this past weekend. I'm currently wiring up an eclipse AVN 2210 and was trying to figure out what to do with the brown steering wheel control wires. According to this thread it looks like all I need to do is wire the normal connections and the steering wheel functions should work, correct?

At the end of this article people can post questions. One guy asks if it has steering wheel controls, and the guy said Yes, it does have a steering wheel control harness, but he didn't test it. It's questions 13 & 14 toward the bottom of the page.
