My 90 4runner: 6cycl. 4wd won't start when the weather is damp. Last winter it did the same thing and when the weather warmed-up it started. A mechanic said it was the computer getting damp. I can't find the darn ECU; where is it located at.
from my understanding it should be in the cab, not too sure where on the 90's but most likey check behind the tape deck, or dash trim. personaly since the ecu is in the cab i dont see how it's getting wet i would say the distrobuter is getting wet. take it off and check for cracks and if it is sealing good to the block, also check and see how the roter is while you have it off.
I would check behind the kickplate on the passenger side below the glovebox... I know that it is that way on the 80's Toyotas until '89. Other than that I haven't worked on anything newer...If I were you I would check to see that the weather seal around the windsheild wasn't bad. If it were it might allow condensation to follow down to body to the ECU. But then again that theory is based on the assumption that I have the correct location of the ECU.
Hi again it's me, April, and it is cold outside. My 1990 4runner is down again after the first rain and it won't start again. I replaced all the distriberator cap and coil. I found the ecu and it looks okay to me circuit boards are circuit boards sealed it up. I think it has to do with the cold start or the cold start time switch. Please try and help I am tired of this and I really don't have the money to take it to a shop.
