I'm not entirely sure what tail light bulbs Tacomas use, but make sure that the correct bulbs are in the holders. I had bought a Corrado years ago that had the same problem, except that the parking lights would also come on when stepping on the brake. The problem was that the previous owner had replaced the taillight bulbs, which needed 1157's (dual filament), with 1156's (single filament). What was happening was that when I stepped on the brake pedal, that allowed power to be fed into the park light/dash light circuit. I had spent two weeks trying to track down what I had figured was a massive short before I found the problem.

Thanks Roz , I will take a look at the light bulbs. I am the original owner and have replaced the bulbs once, that I can remember. Might have put in the wrong ones. I will let you know if that is the problem ....Thanks again

Im with toyo on this one. Corrosion in the trailer harness connector causes lots of strange lighting issues. I would take a look at all the bulbs too though.

to the op...

well i got the problem solved for my truck...did a bit of searching online and decided to check the taillights to see if they were blown (seemed like a common problem)...and yes and one of the bulb filaments were touching creating a short. replaced the bulb ...so everything is back to normal.....check out your bulbs could be that.

good luck!
