the switch is on the top of the shaft that engages the e-brake. i am having the same problem. after it warms up, i am going to unplug it and tape the wires together (I think that will solve the problem)

The Emergency Brake System has nothing to do with the fluid reservoir. If it is indeed the emergency brake you prob just need to adjust the switch that is prob somewhere on the actuator handle in the cab. And anyway at least if its a pre tacoma i dont think we have low brake fluid warning lights unless you have rear abs, then it might.

The parking brake switch and master cyl fluid reservoir cap are both tied to the parking brake light. First check your fluid level and make sure the float is working correctly and not stuck or sunk.

Check your parking brake switch next.

The charging system is also tied into the parking brake light. If your charging light is on (or analog gauge reads low) and the parking brake is on at the same time, then you have a charging system problem.

A malfunctioning/low reservoir will throw the BRAKE light. Very common problem. We do have a warning light, mine was cut by the PO for this very reason.

For clarity, that's the brake lamp on, not the parking brake itself.

my e-brake rod is actually missing the pin that is supposed to push the switch in...i dunno how common this is but i just put a screw in the hole and that fixed it...take a look at the switch if filling the reservoir doesnt fix the problem

Check brake fluid,

Check park brake switch (and pin)

check charging system.

that should cover all but the most obscure problems.

I've never seen one of those pins missing, but I can see how it could happen. The pin has to come out to replace the park brake cable and if not properly reinstalled I figure it would fall out.

I had a 93 22re. Later in its life it had the same symptoms several times. In my case each time it was. The e brake actuating levers that passes through the axle drum housing. The brake worked fine and it felt like it-released fine. It would become cruded up to the point where its true range of travel was hindered. Basically it wouldn’t let the cable return properly. When you apply the brake then release the brake is the cable tight or has a little free play
