Welcome to TN! :welcome:

Have you considered using Toyota's V8 that was once offered in 4Runners? Probably not as much power as you can get from a Chevy, but likely much lighter (better handling) and it might be easier to shoehorn it in. It was derived from a Lexus engine and very smooth & refined. I believe a handful of those engine swaps were done several years ago. Might take some digging to find the old threads about them, but they should still be buried somewhere on the site here. Whatever you decide will be very interesting so be sure to keep us in the loop.

It can be done but do you have the time, resources, contacts, money, and skills to do it?

Freshen up your 4.0 and just add a Supercharger. Easiest and cheapest.

My numbers below maybe a bit off but not by much, check their site!. Engine swaps of all kinds are common discussions on the Tacoma World forum. If you decide on a V8 find a donor Chevy with an LS1 or LS2. Less than a 100 lbs weight difference. Gathering parts to do that to my T100. But I have to buy an address outside of CA. first :(
Different kits available from URD.
