Engine maintenance required and warning message.

Hello. My 2020 Corolla SE 6 speed received a warning notification in the message center. It has no details other than visit dealer. It keeps popping up engine maintenance required on the dash and I can't clear it. Even when I hit the back arrow it pops back up in 2 seconds. I called my dealer and they said it's just saying I need to do my normal maintenance.. but it's not.. that message normally says maintenance required and no warning notification and you can clear it.

I even went to AutoZone to have it scanned, but nothing and no check engine light.

There is nothing about it in any of the manuals... What do I need to check? Where do I start. The oil has another 2k miles till it needs changed and the level is good.

At 58k miles.

No worries man. It’s a maintenance reminder. At 4500 miles the light comes on for a 5ish seconds at startup, and at 5000 miles it stays on and has the message come up in the cluster. Here’s a video that shows how to reset it:

Ah yes. I did see the warning notification in the manual. But nothing about engine maintenance required. How do I even clear it?

The regular maintenance light I can clear real easy.

I did that 10 times already. it does not say maintenance required. It sais engine maintenance required. I've cleared the maintenance required notification when I do my oil/tires. Etc. And it stays off. I can't clear this engine maintenance required at all. It has no details whatsoever.

Disconnect the (-) battery terminal for 10 mins then hook er back up

Scanned - nothing

Cleared minder - nothing

Maybe the ECU is storing something stupid in its cache - needs a good clearing / reset maybe?

Just the reminder to change the oil. They made it hard with the cartridge oil filter to discourage DIY and left the light signal vague to make you run to the dealer to find out what the light's for so they can soak you.

The newer Corolla's don't have cartridge oil filters.

Interesting. When I’m at my office tomorrow I’ll look and see if the maintenance/repair manual mentions anything specific about that message. What does it say exactly? Just “Engine Maintenance Required”?

Thank you. I'll try it tonight when my kiddo goes to bed.

Yeah. It just might be. Computers don't always last long.

I know this is off topic ... but I'm assuming you have an EVH 5150 head ?

I use to have the LBX II and the peavy 5150 2.

I just have a modified David Bray amp 50watt.

I'm guessing you have one?

You can always DM me too.

It didn't do anything removing power. Still there.

I know my old corolla had a diagnostic box under the hood that you could short 2 pins with a paperclip to reset the computer. Does the 2020 have anything like that?

It’s your coolant valve. Turn off your AC. Turn off your car and then start the car without AC. I bet you won’t get the warning until your turn your AC on again.

So the manual says that means the cluster is receiving a “Engine malfunction message signal” over CAN from the ECM. So it may be that something is wrong with your ECM. If that’s the case it’s definitely a take it Toyota thing. Or if you have a TechStream you could use that to read detailed info from the ECM.

I know you tried removing the battery but maybe just the fuse that powers the ECM?

Hmm. Well crap, I hope not. I'll try removing the fuse for the ECM. I don't have a techstream
