Engine ticking and octane

I just figured I'd throw this out there. For all of you that have the engine ticking, how many of you have consistantly run high octane (91 or higher) in your trucks?

91 since day 1. Still have a very annoying tick with a mobil 1 filter and dino 5w 30. I talked to the head toyota mechanic the other day and he said something about the lifters having a gap somewhere that causes the sound.
Well, there go's that theory.

valve lash. if these heads are anything like the head on my MR2, they use a solid shim follower. there HAS to be some gap to allow for expansion due to heat. if there isn't any space between the cam and the follower, your valve won't seat fully and you'll burn exhaust valves and lose compression.

Have run everything from 87 to 93 with no change in the sound. Is not pinging. Swapped to a Mobil 1 M1-102 filter and noise stopped. Now I just have that damn exhaust leak noise.
