I have an '06 Limited. Haven't had any major issues, but have had it in for the tranny re-program, a front brake caliper issue, and taking it back in tomorrow for a rattle above the headliner that they did not fix the last time they tried. I'm at 34,800 on the odometer and the bumper to bumper runs out at 36k. What are your thoughts and experiences on an extended warranty for this car? I'm usually leary of the payoff & financial sense of them, but this car spooks me given the number of bells and whistles it has to malfunction and the seemingly high number of issues reported on here.

I bought a 75/75k extended warranty with my '07. I'm on the road a lot (34k in the first 12-months). Since I drive so much and rely on my car for business so much it made sense to me to get it. One thing I made sure of was the extended warranty was transferable if I decided to sell the car.

Now that I'm approaching 36k miles (tomorrow morning as a matter of fact!) I still have nothing to worry about. That THAT is the reason I bought it.

Nobody wants to be the guy that says No and then a mile after the warranty expires watches the A/C compressor lock up and cost you big $$.
But - they don't cover maintenace items and most (hopefully) of the bugs are ironed out by the end of the factory warranty period.
I've always pocketed the $ and used it towards maintenance expense.
Risk is chance. Your choice.

I have a 2001 Avalon that I bought an extended warranty for, I look at it as an investment, if $hit happens. Toyota's are great, but $hit happens and I don't want to pay for an alt, ac compressor, or whatever.
At the very least, about a few months before the warranty expires, I take it to the dealer and let the friendly service guy know that the warranty is about to expire, please chech it out, its free money for them

I've always been of this mindset also, in fact, I’ve never had a warranty before now b/c I’ve nearly always driven reconstructed ‘R’ titled vehicles until they had very very high miles and then sold or gave them away. This car, I bought 1yr old and paid $26k for it. But, I’ve never had a car with VSC, a $2k headunit/Nav, Laser Cruise, and every other techno-wizard gadget I couldn’t even think of. I guess all that fancy stuff just has me wondering if it would be a good idea in this case.

Money is not so tight that I couldn’t come up with money to do an expensive emergency repair, but I’d had to not get a warranty upgrade and then spend the price of one on a single repair. I guess it is really just peace of mind insurance.

I'm taking possession my my 05 limited this Wednesday. My dealer is offering the 7 yr 100k miles for $880. I've never been one for extended warrenties, but I plan to have this car for a min of 6 years. I've always driven pretty easy and all my cars have been relativily trouble free.

The dealer told my the just before 100k miles that I bring it in to have it checked out. He said they "always" find things to fix. Even if there is nothing that you would like to point out. I think the salesman was talking through his hat.

Thank you for your thoughts.

I have to laugh. Just went to pick up my Avalon for the first time. The drivers side door would not unlock. :thumbdown it had to be opened from the inside. I'm glad the sale person was right their and that I had never taken possession of the vehicle.

All the other doors would lock and unlock.
