Do I need to buy Extended warranty for my 2009 Camry?

My car is 2009 Toyota Camry, it was just over 30000 miles basic Warranty. Recently I had received some letters which asked me to buy EW. I don’t’ trust these unknown company first, besides I almost never buy any EW no matter what kind of product's warranty . Because I believe most of product’s eventual repair fee will be less than the fee which you bought from the warranty. But I still contacted my Toyota dealer and they tried to offer me a insurance company, the name is Fidelity Warranty Services. The price they gave to me ,
3 years, 36000.00 miles, $1735.00
4 years, 48000.00 miles, $1947.00.
The coverage is,
For example,Engine: Oil pan; Valve, Timing and side covers; thermostat balancer; flex plate/ flywheel and ring gear.
I haven’t bought it yet and like to know other people’s opinion here.

Put the $$ in a saving account--add a few buck every month, you will be much better off. Most warranties are not worth the paper. They do not cover everything, and they try anything to get out of paying the claim.

You did not contact us first. That item is not covered, and etc You abused it.

These cars will run a long time with proper maintenance, unless you are a very aggressive driver.

I did purchase an extended warranty with a 54K mile cadillac cts once. It wasn't through GM, but rather some other company. Two weeks after I bought the car it developed a large oil leak(leaked about a quart a week). After fighting with them they did agree to pay to have it fixed. Cadillac dealer quoted 2100 to repair because the entire top of the engine had to come off. After the nightmare of dealing with them over that I cancelled it and got the remaining balance of the money I paid sent back to the finance company since it was still able to be cancelled at that time. Since then if I buy a car out of warranty if I really want it I just tell myself I'll have to pay out of pocket if i decide to buy.

I've worked in the service contract industry for most of my career, so here's the deal: 1/2 of the retail price is profit, so we're at about $850, about $100 is commission to the agent, about $350 is reserved for claims, the rest is insurance and administrative costs. It's hard to justify giving your money to someone else to protect your financial interests. If you can afford it, keep your money and fix it yourself.

I agree I have just under 140,000 miles on my Avalon so far and the only problem I’ve had was the rear brake caliper locked up and needed to be replaced when I first bought it which was only $350 to pay to have it done. One of the FBNs telemarketed me for an EW that was 5 years or 100,000 more miles but wanted $4500 paid in full for it!

Today, I called two EW companies ,
1) the one is called NAVISS, the plan I got is 6 years or 100,000 miles
after talked to several sellspersons, the price Is $2200. 00, $100.00
deductible. They pushed me to set up today but I refused. I told them .
Toyota dealer offered me EW a plan ( 4 years 48000 miles and $1900.00 ),
but NAVISS said their plan covers most parts includes electronic components
but Dealer may only cover big parts such as Engine , transmission and no 6
years plan, I told them I can’t accept today.
2) The another company is Mollen Toyota , their web offers a plan which is
4 years ro 48ooo miles $1100.00, but when I call my Toyota dealer , the guy
said he checked their network and didn’t Find this insurance now. He said if I
want to use this company, I need to pay first by myself when I repair the
car , then I can make claim to Mollen to get money back.
My plan is that “ don’t buy any one “ or buy a cheaper one”

I'll chime in here. First, do your homework. There are a lot of crappy extended warranty companies out there. There are also ones that are good and will honor claims. Next, they are worth it depending on the car you have and the potential problems they may have. Yes they are insurance policies. You have to ask yourself if you have the cash to fork over it something bad happens to your vehicle?

Okay, now that that is out of the way. I bought an extended warranty for my Audi and they paid out more than $1000 than I paid for the warranty, so it was worth it overall. Did I have a hassle with them on claims? Sometimes, it depended on what it was. They send out indy people to check out cars when a claim over a certain amount is sent in. You can always request a 2nd opinion or raise hell. READ THE PRINT COVER TO COVER.

Fast Forward to my Camry now, I had to the opportunity to buy an extended warranty through the credit union I financed my car through. I actually called the dealership and asked them about it. They knew exactly the company I was talking about and said they recommended them. The entire policy was under 800 bucks for coverage over 100K. Covers almost everything. I'm glad I bought the policy because I plan on driving my camry into the ground. Yes they have a history of reliability. Way better than Audi, but they do have some issues for my model year.

So I'm not saying the above posters are incorrect in their opinions but you need to weigh the options yourself to decide what's best for your situation.

FYI, I work on my car as much as I can (rotate tires, oil changes, spring install) but there are certain things I'm not going to do. Why? Cause I know the warranty will cover it. My .02 Good luck

Thank for your moving my thread and also gave to me the link , I will look at them. I found Toyota company still can provide Powertrain and Restraint System Warranty for 60 months or 60,000 miles, so only mine Basic Warranty expired. So I still haven’t decided that I need to buy EW or don’t buy it only
save money to pay by myself .

I checked that my Toyota Camry should have 60000.00 miles Powertrain and Restraint Systems Limited Warranty, I like to know if most important group of components will be covered under this Warranty and I don’t need to buy EW before my car reach 60000.00 miles.

Yes, most of the engine, transmission, and axle are covered in this 5 year/60,000 warranty. Items like alternator, starter, and etc are covered on the 36,000 warranty.

I like to know if radiator or O2 sensor can covered in 60000 mile warranty?
I don't think so. but sometimes even replacing a sensor can be pretty expensive.Thanks!
