took my car to maaco to get painted blue...they did a good job on the painting itself, but the color doesnt match what I picked out, and it looks like crap. I'm taking it in tomorrow to show them the color I picked compared to the color my car is. im pissed

i've only heard bad things about maaco. they don't use the same type of paint that the real body shops use. they use an alternative for budget people like myself. i woulda just saved up and had a good bodyshop do it for $1000 or so.

Uh-oh better get... the hell away from this s**tty paint shop. Seriously, if you know anything about real paint work, you wouldn't bring them a lawn mower!

we've had the maaco discussion a few times on here already...the general consensus is that their paint tends to be of good quality on their higher end stuff...it's the prep job that they really suck at...it's hard for you to actually spray a paint that'll chip and bubble if you do good prep work...

but if you have a crappy sand job and cheap primer, you will get owned...i did prep myself and got quoted 800 to paint my car plus pull out 300+ dollars worth of dents (huge dent on my rear quarter panel where someone packed into me) so that would've been roughly 5-6bills for paint...so the price isn't too bad..

there was a story from someone on this board that said he paid maaco 8bills to paint his car and got a warranty on it...he got screwed over and brought his car back up there like two/three times and in the end the store owner gave him great paint and a great job...customer service may not be like this at every maaco and i'd be pissed about not having a car cause i'd have to send it out two/three times, but in the end he got taken care of...

edit: reread my post and just wanted to clear up that i got the quote from my body guy, not maaco

It really depends on the shop. I have heard some bad things as well as GOOD. But I do agree that you should prepare it yourself.

i definitely agree with the last 2 posts....prep work is their biggest problem, and it also depends on the store. I knew some guys who had their cars painted at this particular Maaco's so i talked to them and looked at their cars first. In all honesty, Maaco really did do a good job on the painting (although I realize its not as good a paint job as I could have gotten, but i dont make that much money ;-)

Its just that the paint the mixed together for my car was a lighter shade than what I had picked out; but like you all say, i guess u get what you pay for

well I went back to Maaco and it turns out different than i expected. this is gonna make me look real dumb, but here goes...the color matched the paint perfectly - I wasn't smart enough to take the paint chip outside in the sunlight when previewing it.

since then i've gotten used to it and actually prefer it the way it is...

And although Maaco is by no means the best paint service out there...they did a real good job on mine. I've had several people asking me where I got it done and complimenting it before i said it was a maaco job...they were very surprised to here it was from Maaco.

My rx-7 was painted at maaco, the paint is crap! it has horrible orange peel, if i wax or buff it, you can see the old paint underneath, they painted over the "MAZDA" emblem and "RX-7" decal, and they didnt even paint the bumpers! you can tell how bad the paint is from about 100 feet away.

wow im sorry to hear that man. as mentioned before, I think alot of it depends on the actual store. that really sux. u should go to them and tell them that you want your car (and bumpers) painted right and u want new emblems, otherwise u'll go to a local news station and practically ruin their reputation
