I have used this site in the past several hundred times just to get info from basic to expert advice and it has been great. I hope what I am trying to describe below someone will be able to give me some great advice. My daughter has a 1995 4 Runner 4 X 2 with a 3.0 engine. She said when she started it up it was squealing really bad, I went over and the looked at it and it was the fan bracket (some call it a false water pump) was frozen. I removed it and sure enough the wheel would not turn at all. I ordered one and when I went to put it on it looked to be missing a solenoid or something. It turned out to be a timing tensioner (Part # T43212) and I am in the process of waiting on it to arrive. The question I have is when I removed the old one and it looked to be missing some sort of pin that goes in from the outside and keeps the shaft from moving in the inside of the bracket, what does that part do and when I replace the bracket does the new tensioner fit into something or what function does it have. I hope I did screw up by removing the bracket. Also would anyone out there happen to have an exploded of what goes where? I thank anyone in advance for your help!!

I'm sure someone else will pipe up, but I think what your referring to is where a pin is inserted from the manufacturer of the new part to make installation easier (the part is pre-loaded). Once it's in stalled ya pull the pin and it allows the tensioner to release and apply pressure against the belt. Pin is then discarded.
If memory serves me correctly ( which is a 50/50 shot) :)

I've never tried, I guess you could, but if it has de-graded over time then you risk the possibility of it allowing the belt to flap and then the cam could jump a tooth. I had it happen on my 3.4, exhaust cam jumped a tooth. I'm sure you could think of away to test it but i don't know where you'd get the perameters.
