February sales:

GM down 12% (retail sales flat, solid performance by CTS, G6, Cobalt, Malibu, and Aura...aging models such as Grand Prix and lower fleet sales caused much of the drop) 270,423 sales

Ford down 7% (daily rentals down 20%, retail down 6%, Taurus/Sable struggling...solid overall) 196,681 sales

Toyota down 6.6% (Prius down, Corolla way down, Camry up slightly) 182,169 sales

Toyota's 6.6 decrease is on an adjusted basis (unit sales only down 2.8%). If you adjust GM for the 1 extra sales day, they were down 16% not 12%. Ford down 10%, not 6%

GM's sales slid 16 percent on an adjusted basis -- at the bearishly high end of analysts' expectations -- on weaker demand for such large trucks as the Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and Chevy Tahoe and Saturn Vue sport utility vehicles. It also said it would cut second-quarter production by 5 percent from year-ago levels.
"February was a very disappointing month for industry sales. I think most everyone is going to be down," GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz told Reuters at the Geneva auto show.

right. not to mention

the 25% drop in Silverado sales
or the 40% drop in Yukon sales
or the 40% drop in Avalanche sales
or the 26% drop in Tahoe sales
or the 36% drop in suburban sales
or the 29% drop in Colorado sales
or the 25% drop in all Cadillac SUV/Truck sales
or the 30% drop in Envoy sales
or the 17% drop in Sierra sales
or the 20% drop in hummer sales
or the 38% drop in Vue sales

Don't forget these are also the highest margin vehicles GM has to offer. It's dealers and the company took a huge hit last month profit wise.

Btw I'm not saying Toyota didn't have it's losers too, but blaming the decline on fleet and the Grand Prix....?

Not shocked by the fall of the Yukon/Sierra/Silverado/Tahoe sales. They've been very weak at my dealer lately, where cars such as the G6, Enclave, Acadia, and Buick models have been much stronger. We can all thank the damn gas prices.

LOL, it's funny to see it that way. But I see the value of my vehicle (Nissan Armada) plummeting. :(

Oh well, I love the darn thing, it tows my travel trailer, it tows my boat, and I can carry 8 people in comfort and style......so I guess I'm not too sad. Besides, I got my trusty Camry! ;)

Resale? Meh, I drive my trucks for 7-10 years and 100K+ anyways. Resale don't mean squat to me. Both of my last 2 trucks have been worth more than any other truck, of any brand of the same age/miles due to how mint I keep them. Heck, My best friend paid me a premium price for my 89, and my brother sold his 99 for 9K to buy my 2000 for 12K.

I can pretty much guarantee you when I sell my 2007 in about 2017, it will sell for far more than 99% of any other 1/2 ton 2007's out there.

There have been predictions that 08 OVERALL auto sales will be down compared to other years. The car market still strong but not as strong in previous years. Gas prices, sagging economy and weaker dollar. Competition from China and India (as far as emerging markets and demand). Of course the housing industry, I think even it effects vehicles that aren't trucks, if you look at the economy of it. Meaning people are buying beyond their means (granted the banks are lending freely-although I know its changing) and don't have money to even keep their house let alone get a car new or used in some cases. So the housing crunch is directly and indirectly it effecting the car market.

Wow, you Viking fans must think Chevy puts real gold in their paint. Those are damn near 1-ton diesel prices....for 1/2 tons. If you say so.

So, now I am a liar? Hell, my dealer offered me $11.5K for my 2000 with 90K+ on it. And that was AFTER we agreed to order my 07 at invoice pricing. Keep in mind, this was 1 year ago. Also didn't hurt that my 2000 was black and "showroom clean"

I didn't call you a liar now did I? Like I said......Minnesota pricing possibly differs from other parts of the country. And let's be honest, one year ago gas was a hell of a lot cheaper.

LMAO....

Someone who sets his money on fire as fast as he can then gloats about being stupid is not a person many would look try to emulate. pwnd.

I guess you'll be having 'daytime emissions' if gas goes to $8 a gallon. ahhh ahhhh ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Nope, but when all of the people who whine about gas prices and make sacrifices/concessions on how they live their life look back someday and WISHED they had done this or done that "if only gas prices hadn't been so high". I will not have any regrets. You only live once and it goes by too fast anyway. I choose to NOT let high gas prices stop me from doing ANYTHING I choose to do. Even at $5/gal, gas would still be a minor expense in the grand scheme of things. Heck, I can work an extra 2 hours/week of OT and net enough to fill my tank. So, you can say I set my "money on fire", but my truck and my boat are my leisure toys (need a truck when you trailer a boat) and I consider that a VERY important part of my life. So, go ahead and sit on your ass waiting to die, I will be on the river drinking beer and enjoying the sunshine. :chug:

http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/dnav/pet/hist/mg_rt_mnw.htm I guess it depends on when you sold it exactly. In Minnesota Feb 25, 2008 gas averages $3.00. On Feb 26, 2007 gasoline was $2.37.

Please note I'm not trying to prove you wrong....your comment piqued my curiosity, so I found that link. Gas got pretty high for you guys last year!
Maybe in Feb, but gas prices have hovered right around the $3/gal mark since last spring.
