Just wondering how many of us would consider trading our Tacomas for the FJ Cruiser when Toyota starts selling it next year. I will be taking a serious look at it, but I learned my lesson with this Tacoma and even if I decide I want the FJ, I won't buy it as a first year model. Instead, I'll watch the discussion threads for a year and then decide whether or not I want to buy it.

Thought about waiting for the FJ, but decided that I don't want another 2 door vehicle. I want 4 doors and I want a truck, which is why I bought the Tacoma. The FJ looks nice and is reminiscent of those early Land Cruisers I like so well. But I think it's less practical than the truck.

If I had the money to blow, I would look around for one of those early Land Cruisers from the late 60s or early 70s. If I couldn't find one, I'd go for the Ford Bronco from this same period. But I'd rather have the Toyota. I'd resore it, give it three inches of lift and some larger tires, add a winch and some heavy-duty bumpers, dual batteries, and this would be my off road vehicle. :whatwhat:

Those photos are the show/concept version. The production version is much more "Toyota" than those photos. Going to be a fun ride. Would like one but need a truck too often. Don't have room for another 4x4 toy.

Gotcha, I just googled some images of it, and it's the first thing that popped up. I'll go check out the other one your talking about. THNX!!

I would be interested in the "suspension seats" and if they make it into production..

Depending on what actually rolls out of the factory, I just might buy one for the wife to cruise around in...

FJ Cruiser test drive

I drove the FJ today in Redlands, CA. Really cool! Engine had great acceleration (of course -- same as the Tacoma), and the suspension felt similar to my TRD. It's pretty plain jane inside really, but I do like the compass and the level indicator mouted on the center of the dash board. The rear suicide doors are cool and the back has lots of storage room and even more if you fold the back seats down. The rear door swings open with a gas strut assembly.

I'm in no hurry to get one as the one I looked at was featured out -- and cost over $31K. My wife wants us to trade our Dodge Durango in for one of these -- we are going to wait until early next year to take the plunge.

For the fun of it, I asked the salesman if I could get it for invoice and he said he would do if this vehicle lasted on the lot for more than 24 hours. (He was kidding of course). As soon as we got back from our test drive, another salesman had a couple there wanting to take it for a spin. It's already got 40 miles on it. It was the blue and white colored one, and they sold a silver and white one yesterday.

Toyota will sell tons of these once they get their production going.

I checked out the FJ at the Dallas Auto Show, and what I liked about it most was the old FJ40 looks. I also like the fact that it has a good ol' manual transfer case shifter, don't see that in many new vehicles nowadays.

Turbo -- you are right about the price -- way up there! The one I drove today had just about every option you could think of. I doubt if we will see many of these down in the low 20s for a while.

the fj is actually what got me in my '06 tacoma DC. i needed more practicality (coming from an rx-8) but paying msrp when i could (and did) get a tacoma more or less loaded for invoice just didn't make sense. it's a nice rig, though. got to test drive one a week before i bought the taco, a silver with an AT, and it looks and rides nice...solid...love my tacoma though :)

I thought about waiting for the fj to come out before I got my truck so I could compare side by side but in the end I knew that I needed the truck bed more that the int room of the fj.... but it was a close call.... parking would deff be alitte easyer with the cruiser.... I'll still try to get out and test drive one sooner or later

I was reading a Car & Driver article on Monday while waiting for my tires to be installed and they were comparing it to the H3, Xterra, and a Grand Cherokee. Here's the article:

http://www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/10776/hummer-h3-jeep-grand-cherokee-laredo-4wd-nissan-xterra-off-road-4wd-toyota-fj-cruiser-4wd.html

I'm aware that ad revenue may play a role in their reviews, but they didn't seem too impressed with the FJ ON the road. OFF the road they did like it though.

I personally think they're interesting looking, but also a little goofy looking. And they have some nice features, but overall don't they just seem a little more like a trend than anything else?

I kind of look at it like a Wrangler with Toyota reliability...which would make it a fun vehicle to have for offroading, but no way would I prefer it over my truck!

I like the look of the FJ, but the interior space is what makes me say no. I need a 4-door, with the little one, and the mother-in-law riding along quite often. As well, as many parents know, the smaller the child, the more gear you need to haul around. That's why I'm getting out of my other car, and into a Taco. With the tonneau cover, the bed becomes a big trunk, and I'll have room to haul all my "midgit's" gear, without having to store some of it in the passenger compartment. Maybe in a few years, if they're still around, I'll look at it more seriously, but for right now, gonna say no.
