I have searched the Camry Gen 1 & 2 forum and not found this specific topic. I have a '91 Camry 2.5 L automatic and want to flush the power steering fluid. I am not replacing the rack or pump, I just want to flush the fluid. I read somewhere to first empty the reservoir with a turkey baster, then remove the return hose at the reservoir and stick it in a collection bottle. Then start the engine and let it idle while making sure to keep the reservoir full of the new fluid as well as turning the wheels slowly from lock to lock. Is this the proper method?

Thanks

The turkey baster approach is the easiest. Remove as much of the old fluid as possible from the reservoir then add new fluid, normally there is no need to bleed the system. Do this a number of times over a weeks worth of driving and the fluid will be clean again.

If you think the system has air in it, turn the steering wheel lock to lock serveral times.
