yup...FNG here... not new to forums by any measure... but new to Toyota ownership..

Heres how it happened...

I sell the built mustang GT I had and got a 96 Taco 2.7 4wd 5sp... standard cab...bench seat...no a/c...170k miles..(not that high for a toyota I hear) and I drive it for a day... next day I rolled onto my lift after hours at work to change the diffs and engine oil and put some new 02 sensors in. This is after I have just installed plugs, wires, cap and rotor... so I am looking over my "new" truck, and near the gas tank, the frame rail had a rust hole through it. Well crap, the guy I bought it from claimed to have already had the dealer inspect the frame. Turns out he did...over a year ago. The dealership I went to failed the trucks frame and now a buyback is being arranged... Toyota rocks for standing behind their product like this!!

So, why the hell is this FNG in the T100 section talking about a damn Taco?

Tonight, I brought home a 96 T100 3.4 ext cab 4wd 3.4L 5spd SR5 on some 32x11.5s with all the options available in 96 from what I can tell. 186k miles, and runs like a top. still on its original clutch and not a slip to be had....amazing. It idles so smoothly that its hard to tell its running at a stop light. I'm impressed. It pulls nicely for a v6...and the xtra cab is nicely sized.... This is a NICE truck. Why the hell couldnt Toyota sell these things??? I dont get it..

You have to understand what it was competing with at the time... :(

Make sure you...

Clean the MAF and reset the ECU
Clean the throttle body and IAC valve
Check the PCV valve and grommet
Check the trans fluid
Replace fluid/items as required... :D
Polish up them headlights (I'm sure they are fogged up)
Post some piccies!!

Welcome to the T-100 community! :D

Congrats on the new T. I have an equivalent T except with an auto. I would LOVE to have this truck in a manual. Maybe when I hit 300K I'll do a swap...

The other factor was that the T100s were still being manufactured in Japan and imported... and there were huge tariffs to get them into the US, so they weren't price competitive. In fact, the T100 was the last Toyota truck to be manufactured in Japan and imported into the US. Maybe that's why the build quality is so high!?
thanks for the welcome guys... this truck was so perfectly maintained...I know it doesnt need all that stuff...it needs some wheel balancing...that it basically... the guy had service records dating back to 1996!!
Throttle body and IAC valve aren't normally done as standard maintenance. It won't take much to take a peek and do them. Same fer the MAF and ECU reset...cause yer driving will differ from the previous owner. Unless he's had the PCV valve and grommet replaced...I'm gonna venture to say that the grommet is pretty hard and not pliable anymore.

Fer wheel balancing, make sure they use lug-centric (not hub-centric) fingers to balance the wheels/tires...even if you have to hunt down someone to do it. Not all dealerships have a clue either... :(

NICE T100, sounds just like The T100 i bought, guy had it serviced monthly!! WOW!! he had alot of money
yeah, i have been reading through the service records...this guy documented each and every detail...from time started, parts and part numbers used, torque specs that each and every fastener was tightened to, amount of squeezes on the grease gun for each grease nipple... freakin amazing.. He must have been ex-military. I love this truck...it gets looks everywhere I go and its not even lifted or anything.. I guess ppl just dont know what it is.
