Here is a good link about Forced Induction. Of particular note is the new Twin Charger system.

Nice link Jo.
FYI, on production cars, yes, new.
But HKS have sold twincharger kit for MR2 MKI since late 80's.
The kit was discontinued and not many cars still have it.
I did not know that. That's an interesting fact.

We shall see, if the costs come down on a Twin Charger system, how many production cars will have it in the future. American Auto makers usually prefer Superchargers. Japanese, turbo chargers and Europe.. well it looks like they may prefer both turbo charged and supercharged.

Interestingly enough Volkswagen intially developed this to get better fuel economy not power from its engines. Of course as a result you'll get better HP too which is nice. Someone has told me they have had this system on Big Rig trucks for years but not passenger vehicles.
VW is supposedly doing R&D on a small TwinCharged 4 cyl.
Yeah, in the article I posted it does mention Volkswagen providing this in some of its production cars but I am not sure which ones. I'm sure it will end up in some of the Audi vehicles as well.
