I installed a soundstream xsc.6 6.5 inch component set in my truck this weekend. I was trying to figure out how to mount the 2 inch tweeters and I came up with a great solution. I took the stock tweeter and cut the paper parts off the basket and knocked the magnet off the back with a hammer and screwdriver, and presto, I had a perfect mount for my new tweets. The soundstream tweeters fit perfectly inside the basket. I secured it with the supplied hardware that came with my new speakers and it bolted back on the truck like factory. IMO it's well worth sacraficing you crappy stock speakers for an easy way to mount aftermarket components. I would post pics with the tread but I don't know how. I can post pics to my cardomain page if anyone wants to see this modification.

You can see it through the grill that is built into the door panel. If I look at the passenger door while sitting in the drivers seat I can clearly see it. I guess it is sound streams new logo.

I did the same exact same thing with my Diamond audio Tweets and 6.5 woofer. I cut the cone and plastic basket off of the stock 6x9 and rear 6.5 assembly and was able to mount speaker right to it. The rears worked just as good.

You can get MDF wood baffles from my friend Marv, or you can get good plastic ones from www.tacotunes.com

I made new mdf mounts for my 6.5's. I thought about doing the same with the factory woofers but it was not as easy as the tweeters.

Ditto, I would seal the doors with a good deadener and good speaker mounts, the mid bass would kick up a lot.

You are loosing a lot of SQ with that setup.
