I know for my one, there were actually fissures in the trunk lid jamb, in the area between the weatherstrip and the lid. There's a weld there that had a very small fissure, I was able to trace the water lines on the inside to where they were coming from. There were more fissures behind the tail light and I sealed those up too, and there was much, much less water in that space. There still is some and I don't know where else it could come from, but honestly at this point I'm content with just keeping the rubber hole plugs out to let air in those spots.
