The dealer I bought my truck from recently told me that they have a free tires for life promotion. The only thing is I have to get every 5000 mile maintenance interval done at the dealership. Sounds like it may actually be worth it considering I could drop a grand easy on a new set of tires. What do all of you think?

that sounds like a nice idea, unless if you dont want to go with a bigger wheel and tire setup after some time and you actually like the stock tires.

It gets canceled if you alter the tires/wheels in ANY way. So if you decide you want anything other than the dunlops that came on your truck, kiss your tires for life goodbye. Also, you have to have ever single service done at that specific dealer, or they will cancel it.

Sweet deal for a dealer. $500+ for a 15K service, $700+ for a 30K service, another $700+ for the 45K service. So far Dealer would have gotten from you$2000+, not counting oil changes in-between. For $800 you can get decent tires that will last you 40K-50K miles.

You can do oil changes yourself for $10 using dino oil, for $20 with synthetic. 15K mile service is EASY and can be done in 1 hour and 2 beers for $100, including booze. Same goes for the 30K. At 45K you might want to get your tranny flushed (I do not believe in 100K miles transmission fluids), still less than $2000.

So do you want to pay $2000+ for a crappy set of tires?

Not worth it in my opinion. That locks you into paying the dealer's outrageous prices for the unnecessary services. An oil change can be done much cheaper than the dealer charges, and the other services that they charge you $500+ for are mostly nothing more than a visual inspection. On top of that, the stock tires suck and at the first chance you get you should replace them (unless you have the TRD Off Road which has semi-decent tires). What if you decide you want a lift in 2 years? Or if you want a better all terrain tire? Don't bother.

They do that around here. Your still paying for it no matter. And they choose the tire, like whats cheapest and in stock.

Guy I work with has a TRD Off-road Tundra with tires for life. Had stock BFG's, now he's got some B-stone H/Ts for a replacement.:ugh3: . Everyone knows how good those are.

+1 what Jeddak said. The "every 5k service" is defined as more than just your oil changes. It also includes the major service intervals which the dealer will bend you over and...well...you know...

NOT WORTH IT. The dealer offers that for one reason, It benifits THEM. They do it locally here. You get the exact tires that came on the truck, and you have to take it to the dealer for EVERY service. My ex got this on her truck, she took it in for every service then moved out of state before she needed new tires, lost a ton of money, and the dealer wins again.

It's a joke, don't do it. And they define life as 6 years, plus they have to rotate to maintain the warranty. Oh and you only get the set that comes with the truck plus another set. Two sets total=much money for the dealer.

$500 for a 15K mile service??? I think I paid about $170 for mine...what has your dealer been telling you?
I bought my truck with 15K miles on it. Previous owner had the 15K miles service done at the dealer. Had all maintenances records, receipts, passed themon to me. IIRC, he had just paid about $500 for the 15K service prior to selling the truck.
Welcome to Alaska, where ONE dealership pretty much rules the state, and 'Youta trucks/vehicles sell for the MSRP.

My buddy got his serviced since 04' when he brought his new.. He told them he'd do it but he didn't want the stock tires.. They told him he could have any choice tire he wants.. So far he's on his 2nd set from them.. I think he's got 50K.. His first set was a 32" MTR and his set now was a 33 bridgestone a/t version.. He lifted his truck up at 14K so both the tires he got were with a lifted truck and black pro comp wheels.. Wheel and deal with those ****, something will give..

BTW he stopped doing it cause the next interval of service was going to be like 1K.. + he's got to drive 120 miles round trip..

IMHO take it of you can get any tire choice. Some will others won't.. Tell them you want synthetic oil of possible and try to get your trck lifted by te next time and buy some EXPENSIVE MTR's or something or if you got a sport and run the 17" rims get the new bfg M/t. And then discontinue it after thta set is what I'd do..

Do the math !! Check the manual service reqiurements against what the dealer says he does. He's waaay ahead of you. They do the same thing here in Florida. You end up paying many times over for that set of tires.
