Well my rig is over a year old now and began to develop the slight grunt noise that comes from the front end only when cold and turning left or right. It goes go away shortly after I drive it. I did a search and found some info on it but I could not locate a tread where a solution was found. Does anyone have an update or fix?
Thanks in advance.

its not the ABS self check grunt is it? seems to be a bit louder in the cold months. I think its supposed to trigger after like 10 or 20 feet of driving.

Just a thought.

I bet its your driveshaft.. you lubed it lately? I have the same thing happen... it happens when i leave my development. My turn that causes it is on a slight incline... or crest in the road.

Good thoughts, but I don't thinks it's the drive shaft because it only does it within the first 30+/- feet of movement and the truck only has 14K miles on it (but I'll lube it just in case). As for the ABS self-check, I don't know too much about that but I'll do more research on it. The more I try to isolate the sound, the more it seems like it may be coming from the back of the engine or on top of the trans area, but again it's hard to pin-point becasue it only does it when it's cold.
Thanks a mil.

If you have a 4WD then you need to lube both Drive Shafts every 5000 miles with the oil change. There are 5 grease zerks one on each U-Joint so 2 on the front DS and 3 on the rear DS one at each end then one in the center on the joint where the carrier bearing is.

If you have a Pre-Runner then you don't have to worry about it cause the Pre-Runners have a sealed and permanently greased Driveshaft.

I have a 4WD and lube is done... but what is strange is the noise is not there if I drive with 4WD engaged... only if in 2WD. If I'm right the front ds is not spinning in 2WD mode, is it?

hey, my truck is making some kind of grunt noise also...so i looked under the hood, and where the intake touches the fender well, it was loose. get someone to hold your intake while you turn the wheel and giving the truck a bit of gas. if you stop hearing the noise, then theres your problem. i put some automotive calking around the intake and it fixed it.
