replaced fuel pump and a new battery. took banjo out of the fuel filter and had gas coming out (fuel pump is working great) and replaced the washers for the banjo bolt for a good seal. When i try to start, it every now and then (1 out of 20 times if i let it sit for a day), it will turn over for seconds. Is there a valve on the fuel rail im missing or is it something to do with injectors or something else? Problem is somewhere after the fuel filter to the engine. Any ideas?

did you have the intermittent long crank BEFORE you replaced the fuel pump and battery?
pull the vacuum line from the fuel pressure regulator and see if there's gas in it or a smell of gas...

I don't think there's a vacuum line going to the fuel pressure regulators for either the 5S or 1MZ...the regulator is integral to the pump assembly, right? The dampers that terminate the rails sometimes fail (diaphragm rips) and leak, usually visible under the yellowing plastic cap (or fuel drip).

there is no vacuum line. I will have to look at the fuel rail to see if there is a problem. Didnt know that since it will turn over after sitting if the vapors are able to make their way to the engine but not enough gas to have it stay running.
Thanks
