I got tired of having the remote fall from my visor or just looking for it, so I decided to mount a button on one of the blanks. It was pretty simple actually, I just bypassed the switch on the remote with a momentary button and mounted it on one of the blanks. I also added a connector between the remote and button so I could remove the remote to change out the battery.

I mounted the remote to the inside wall of the dash with velcro and the pocket is available for loose change. I tried the reception out and it was fine I was about 100ft away and it worked fine.

I got the same door remote. I removed the metal spring strap off the back and applied some velcro to it. It got attached to the bottom of the sunglass box. Stays put and easy to find even in the dark just by feel.

Your mod with the switch is a cool one though, thanks for sharing!:)

I really like your idea Truckie.
Has anyone else tried to wire the garage door remote like this to the selector button for the temp guage in the overhead console? Right now, the button switches the display from Farenhieght to Celsius, or turns the display off altogether. I just as soon leave the display on Farenheight all the time and use the button to activate the door opener. I haven't taken the overhead console apart, so i have no idea what it looks like in there. Thanks.

When some one does a homelink mod then that would be cool. My problem with your mod is I often take the garage opener out so I can use it when I'm not in the truck so I think I would pass on this mod.
you could just buy another garage door remote, like a small key chain one and leave it in your truck, thats what i would have done if i still parked in the garage and went with a hardwired remote. Only i would have mounted it in my sunglass holder and put the button on the lid, it would have looked real OEM if i had done it, lol.
