I don't have a garage door holder spot in my truck. Its more of a Sunglasses thing. It currently holds my Oakley Eye Jacket 2.0's. As they are my backup when I forget to wear my Monster Dogs. I can't go outside without shades. I have extremely sensitive eyes.

Nah..... no spot in the cieling for the remote. What I did was opened the original door remote and soldered 2 wires across the switch and put a small pushbutton switch at the other end of the wires. I bought a new dash plug to replace one of the blind plugs next to the diff lock switch. I'm going to drill a small hole in the new plug for the new pushbutton switch. I was going to velcro the door opener to the inside of the center console.
What do you guys think?

I just got some of the sticky backed velcro and attached the "male" side to the remote (with the clip removed) and stuck it directly to the headliner material right in front of the map lights. That was like 3 months ago and it hasn't moved since.

As a side note, that area apears to be fairly hollow and if somebody wanted to get tricky you could probably rig up something more interesting...

I did what others here have done and bought the homelink mirror from "wembleysells" on ebay. Install and programming took less than an hour - no more remotes laying around in the truck. I still can't believe Toyota doesn't offer homelink as part of an upgrade package for the taco. There are alot of us out there who have gates and garage doors that don't want a Tundra/Sequoia/Land Cruiser.

Toyota (if you're lurking): If you build the A-BAT, please make sure you put homelink in it! I would like to have a hybrid pickup, but if you don't put homelink and a decent iPod/aux interface in, I'll keep my old truck.

OT, but I have sensitive eyes, too. I'm on my first pair of Oakleys after years of loyalty to RayBan. And although I think the lenses in the Oakleys are better optically, they are shit compared to Rayban in the durability department. I have the polarized Titanium Whiskers, and they are just crap, IMO. The lenses scratch if you look at them crosseyed and the tittanium finish is just a weak.

I'v ebeen thinking about some Maui Jims for my B'day as those have the best polarized lenses I've seen, but I don't know how tough they are. Do you have any experience with these glasses?

if you want quality all around, check out Costa Del Mar sunglasses. Ray ban was bought out by Luxottica, the brand that owns lenscrafters stores.....they've cheapened the product and they're not worth buying. Oakley's are better optically, however as you suggest, the frames suck balls.... costa del mars are good both ways and they have a lifetime warranty on the frames....if they ever break, you send them to the company and you'll get an apology letter and a new set of glasses.... Great company.... I use them myself!!!

Awesome, thanks!

Yeah, the last pair of Raybans I had I bought in 1999 and they lasted me 8 years. They flew off my head while we were flying down the river. I could have wept.

I can't go outside w/o glasses either. Even on an overcast day I can't see without a good pair of shades, different ones depending on how I'm feeling.

Back to topic: I have seen the mod where people have modded their opener to a switch and mounted in somewhere on their dash. I though about that as well but then one of the guys around here was either doing a GB or forwarded a link to the guy selling the Homelink mirrors. I like the ingenuity (SP?) of the remote mod but I love my home link more. Great range, never have to change batteries, and it auto dims.

The homelink sounds nice. Do you have to pull out the headliner to install the wiring? I like the idea, just not the thought of the work.

The little cubby for the gd opener in the upper console is nice. It came with velcro strips and little lego-looking blocks that you can stack on the back of the switch to compensate for good contact on different openers.

What is there in it's place?

I think it is great. I did it on the overhead console though. I hated reaching in the cubby everytime, so I bought a 2.00 push button switch at radio shack and mounted it up by the temp/compass and ran the wires to the remote that sits in the sunglassholder, which I do not use. I also put disconnects on the wires so I could remove the opener if needed. Works like a champ, best 2.00 I ever spent.

The only problem I had is remounting the overhead console as I got the clips to snug up as much as I could, but is still not as snug as I would like.

The homelink mirror has a great range....it is very simple to install. you just tap into the power of the compass/temp gauge so that the mirror comes on when the key is on....maybe takes 15 minutes to do. the mirror also has an automatic dimming feature with a sensor so that when a car behind you had their headlights glaring, the dimmer kicks in and the mirror turns a greenish color to block the glare, causes by light in the blue spectrum. great addition to my truck IMO>

I think you do not get the remote cubby when you have the temp/compass display (I do not anyhow), just the sunglasses holder.

I mounted mine just forward of the glasses holder with velcro.

Really sucks though that my daughters HYUNDAI has the Homelink mirror.
