what im getting at is if the stock alternator is good enough to recharge an optima yellow top because im reading about all these recommended charging information for it like:

Recommended charging information:

Alternator:
13.65 to 15.0 volts, no amperage limit.

Battery charger:
13.8 to 15.0 volts, 10 amps maximum, 6-12 hours approximate.

Cyclic Applications:
14.7 volts, no current limit as long as battery temperature remains below 125°F (51.7°C). When current falls below 1 amp, finish with 2 amp constant current for 1 hour.

Rapid Recharge:
Maximum voltage 15.6 volts (regulated).
Maximum current: No limit as long as temperature <125°F (51.7°C).
Maximum recharge time: Charge until current drops below 1 amp.

Float charge:
13.2 to 13.8 volts, 1 amp maximum current, time indefinite (at lower voltage).

All limits must be strictly adhered to.

you know optimas are overrated, and overpriced, you can get other agm/gel cell batteries for half the cost with better ratings :)

sonnenschein (a tad longer) and odyssey (are actually smaller)

both with similar or better specs and are MUCH cheaper.

Yes, the Odyssey IS much smaller:

Dimensions: (L x W x H) 184.7mm x 79.0mm x 169.4mm
7.27'' x 3.11'' x 6.67''

to be exact. Therefore, it won't fit...
it wont fit or you cant be bothered rewiring?

the battery in my car currently is too short ... plank of wood :D

What it with you guys and those expensive fancy crap batteries.
Uless your running with 1500w+ of amps or live on the north
pole i realy dont see the need for buying a such expensive battry.
I`ve got an 70Ah Varta Asia Dynamic sealed acid battery in my car
and it does a great job. Cost me 60$ by the way.

You did notice the + behind 1500 didn`t ya? ;)
My friend is running a 2000w amp on his 2x Kicker Comp Vr
subs with a standard 70amp battery like mine. only thing he put
in was a 1f cap and thats it.
Noob? the only noob here is you, who actualy think that
spending 140$ on a freaking battery is going to make
a difference! :D

2000w? whats that... 200wrms? :D

if you were running in a stereo comp, you would have external battery power or power outlet power. othewise, when youre driving, the alternator does everything, not the battery.

the reason he has the cap is because the alternator cant handle the output :D

caps are an afterthought anyway... used for when the amp itself is lacking :)

what do you think is inside an amp anyway :)

my 1000WRMS DLS amp doesnt need a cap :)

Ah, the ole "my (so called) friend has this and that (but he really doesn't, I just wish I did)" story quickly followed by the elementary "I know you are, but what am I" defense. You're so cool!!!

Here we go again about capacitors...here's some educational reading for you:

http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t88047.html

When you're done reading about that, try searching "The Big Three", "Alternators", and "Optima". You might learn something and increase the number of wrinkles in your brain.

Please take your counterproductive, bland, inoperative, fruitless, and uninspiring comments elsewhere.

Yet again...:eek:wnedsmas :eek:wnedsmas :eek:wned: :eek:wned:

He`s running a mono 2Kw Kicker amp so its not a "Serial box" amp.
The cap is there to ensure a nice stabel current for the amp, the altenator
never had any problem with delivering the juice the amp needed, it has
more of a show value with with digital volt meter and all. The altenator
does not alone serve the cars powerneeds, the altenator doesnt have
any power reserve and that`s where the battery comes in,if you only
needed the battery to start the car you wouldnt need more than a
15Ah battery with a 330A cold cranking current if the altenator
actualy could serve the whole cars powerneeds when running.
