Hello was about to purchase an 2016 XLE hybrid and the private mechanic I hired noted on his report that the rear diff / motor had been services because it was covered with orange gasket material that is not used by Toyota. We decided against purchasing the car solely on the premise that the rear diff might have been serviced by an other party other than Toyota as there was no official history from Toyota on repair work on the rear diff.

The car was sold by a Ford dealership so they don't know much at the car.

Ok that sound plausible to me until I saw a youtube video of someone doing the oil change on his rear diff and its looks like the gasket color is orange !

For those of you with Gen 3 hybrid, did Toyota use an orange color gasket material ?

thanks

There is no gasket involvement, while doing oil change - actually, ATF change - on RWD PSD. It is simple drain/fill, with 2 10mm hex heads plugs. None of them has any gaskets of any color.
MOF, there is no rear differential in the sense of conventional RWD vehicle and no driveshaft.
Don't regret.

Hi ukrkoz, Than you for the replay. Yes I know that a ATF differential oil change only involves the drain and service plug. My question pertains to this, the orange gasket material seen on the picture.

My car inspector told me that the presence of this was a sign that the differential / motor unit was serviced by someone and to avoid the car unless I was willing to get in inspected by transmission specialist.

I had my doubts on that, so today I went to test drive and inspect another 2015 unit and found the gasket I have shown in the picture below.
This car has 76000 KM. So that make two cars, the 2016 I saw on friday and the 2015 car today. that leads me to conclude that Toyota did use orange gasket material during these years 2014 to 2016.

on the 2017 XLE hybrid I don't see the same orange colored gasket material.

Boy oh boy, does rust have its ways with it.
I was not referring to THAT gasket. It simply sounded that there was some gasket, or gasket material, involved into ATF change in the rear PSD. Yeah, THOSE are factory gaskets. Most likely, similar in the front.
