I just swapped a Gen 4 dogbone mount into my 94 5SFE after reading about it here. It helped the rough idle a little bit, not as much as I thought it would. But there is a huge difference in driving now. The car accelerates so much smoother now. I had slight vibrations at a couple of speeds while accelerating. Now its a smooth ride up to 70 mph. The original mount was shot. So it needed to be replaced anyway. Spending the extra money on the gen4 mount and bracket was worth it, IMO.

good work

but you guys do know that the gen3 and the gen4 one would work exactly the same...it's just that everybody is replacing a broken gen3 one with a new gen4 one...

Yes, they do work the same. However, the gen4 DB is a better design. If it wasn't an improvement over the gen3 DB, Toyota wouldn't have bothered to redesign it for the gen4s. They would've just kept using the gen3 DB design throughout the gen4s.

Off topic but Eye8....have you posted any updated pics of your Gen 3? I would love to see some good recent photos......

I replaced the dogbone mount on the gen 3.5 but I got the same OEM one from the dealer. $70! The old one was shredded. I can't tell much of a difference but the car has always been smooth. And I figure a working mount relieves stress from the other mounts, which probably should be replaced too.

^ well, if the old one was shredded, the other mounts are done. Because of that, the brand new $70 mount will will meet it's untimely demise in no time. Been there, done that.

I wouldn't be so sure about that, as we have seen many things on the camry that went backwards (or worse) once they went from the gen3 to the gen4

but regardless- it's pretty much all the same, and the price is the same, so a replacement is a replacement.

the only thing better would be a polyurethane replacement ;)

And sorry, not recently- I actually haven't driven it in months because I blew my coilovers and haven't had time to work on the car. I will in a couple weeks hopefully though!

Gabe is another member on here his name is TRD4Life and you will mostly find him lurking around on solaraguy.com. He might be able to make a dogbone mount for ya if you sent him a pm

I dunno. Still looks new, it's been almost two years? I figured that was a possibility - I know I really need to inspect and/or replace the motor mounts.

General Reminders for everyone:
1) Replace ALL worn out engine and tranny mounts when the dog bone is replaced. Otherwise the dog bone will wear out SUPER fast.
2) Mixing urethane/poly/other types of mounts will wear out the weaker of the mounts a LOT faster. If you're gonna upgrade, do them all.
3) If you're not sure about your engine mounts and want a gen 4 dog bone, pick up a decent used one from a junk yard.
4) Remember you need both the dog bone AND the bracket that holds it to the engine.

I did a search but can't find a link to anyone replacing the front mount on the 1MZ. Is this something I can do myself for the average TN'er who changes their own fluids and isn't afraid to get dirty? The reason I ask is because my dealer is having a 30% off sale on Toyota OEM parts so I might see if they have it in stock. I'm definitely going anyway so I can pick up oil filters for all the Toyotas in the family.

Last year when they had this sale, I won a free auto detailing certificate ($100 value, I gave it to a friend cause I detail my own car) and picked up OEM rims for $50 each. I'm hoping they have good stuff again this year!

I've read many times that you need to replace at least the front mount if your torque strut/dog bone mount is shredded. YMMV I'm sure, but I installed a new dogbone mount on 2/2009 and as of 8/2010 it's good as new.
