got 04 camry se 3.3 vvt-i ...

generally happy with the beaut but got questions about thumps and thuds.

i realize that the thumps are from the suspensions due to the stiff springs but where in the world are those thuds coming from?

i feel it occasionally when starting the engine in the morning right when the engine kicks in. to me, it feels like the engine mounts are not tight enough. also, the times i feel a thud is when i accelerate off from a stationary position or from a snail's pace. it feels as tho it's coming from the engine undercarriage or from the exhaust system as the engine torque kicks in upon accelerating a tad briskly.

has anyone here been experiencing these thuds and thumps? what were the diagnoses and remedies to this? would like to hear your experiences and suggestions.

i tried to install the trd springs on my gen 5 and afterwards i heard clunking noises from the front (i think). i went to a mechanic and he told me that the front springs don't look like the right size for the car. that's the only time i heard noises.

hey mkii

that's pretty crazy, i've never heard any problem on the eibach/trd springs and you're the first one i heard it on the gen 5 about something wrong with the noise or setup... but i realized the trd springs has two types... there's the 1.25-1.50 " all around setup for the 4 springs; and there's another set of springs where the front springs are slightly lowered more in the front than the back, which is slightly higher than the front if you know what i mean :p: but yeah. just wondering which one did you purchased?

awesome! a reply! i didn't know that there were two different settings that i could've purchased. i got them from a toyota dealer. i'm not sure if the front was lower than the other, but i do know that it was a lot lower than maybe the 1.2" drop. stock, i could stick 4 fingers between the tire and the wheel well. after the install, it was barely two fingers.

when i was putting it in, the fronts did seem funny because the spring didn't sit directly on that rubber mat like the stock ones did. i'm trying to talk to the dealer, and he's trying to talk to trd.

all i know is that they were pretty low. very little clearance from the floor to the door sills. i would almost trip on it getting into the car.

thanks so much for replying. help.

well it kind of makes me wonder... because when i mentioned about there's two types of springs setup. the ones where all 4 springs are dropped the same height around 1.2-1.5" and then other 4 springs which in this case the 2 springs in the front are slightly or a little more lowered in the front than the rear... but what i'm trying to say is, when trd released the 4 springs where they're all dropped the same height all around, it was mentioned and posted to be sold for the 98 to 03 years or something like that. and then finally when the newer camry came out with the 3.3 liter 3mz's etc etc that's when they released out the newer springs where the 2 front dropped is slightly more lowered than the rear kinda like a "racer/drifter" look styler or whatever it is but it does to me... but yea just wonder if that could be a factor?

so here's the part number for the springs:
00602-48130-CAM
- this is for the 97-03 camry which is the 4 springs drop all equal around

00602-48130-019
- this is for the 04+ camry where the front is slightly lower than the rear.

wonder if any beneficial factors influence during the setup with the two different springs or whatsoever.
