Hey TN,

Going to be adding new rear view mirror with auto dim map lights and compass on my 2005 LE.

Iam going to tap into radio 12v+ constant and 12v swiched.

Need help locating reverse trigger wire. Can somebody point me in the correct location maybe with a picture and which is the exact wire?

Does your LE already have the maplight mirror? If it does, trace the wires down the driver's side A pillar or just splice into those wires for the map light.

I also used the radio circuit and used the ground point under the dash.

Yes 75aces, the car already has the maplight harness however I plugged the harness in on the new mirror and it only powered the maplights no auto dim or compass. So I switched Pin 6 to location 2 and didn't work. Long story short I only get 8v+ from that factory map light wires. So I ordered a new harness and going to start fresh. 12v constant 12v switched , ground , reverse light.

The original wires was 12v+constant and ground.

So I'm going to tap into stereo for the constant and switched. Ground under the dash . Just need reverse light

The map light is constant 12v since it will work without the key. It should have enough power to turn on the lights.

Just use the radio circuit to control the autodim and compass.

It sounds to me that you bought the mirror without a harness? I tried this also as my mirror is also a 7 pin connector. Tried swapping pins and it didn't have enough power to turn on my compass and autodim.

Yes, I purchased without a harness , I thought it was going to be plug and play LOL! Then I seen hardtop post from a while back to switch the pin 6 to pin 2. And it did not work. I think it fried the original harness lol. Some resistance in the line only getting 8v.

Edit : you could repin the connector but splice into the wire to the radio circuit and add the map lights later.

If purchasing the harness on eBay, look for cooper_z71. Or something like that.

I ended up running new power and ground wires instead of trying to locate the wiring for the map lights.

Yah, my harness came in , gonna install tomorrow when I have sometime, ditching the original power and ground for maplights running new everything. Gonna sneak a wire all the way to the reverse lights as well !

Why are you running wiring to the reverse lights?

Interesting. I didn't need to do that.

You have the same one as I do. How many wires are on your pigtail for the mirror?

Mine is a 5 out of 7 pigtail
Running power , ground, power constant , door , reverse.

However I'm not running door because I don't want map lights on when door opens.

I had to run the reverse light because the dome light would dim the mirror when I got in the car

I just had 2 wires out of 7. Power and ground. Tapped the radio circuit and grounded using a chassis ground point.

Guess the vehicle you pulled it out of had the optional autodim sideview mirror.
