I have taken the wheel off and the hub wouldn't turn. Took the caliper off and there seemed to be no apparent problems. Put the caliper back on and the hub turned. Still getting a burning smell from the brakes at times. Any suggestions what to check for next or to look for. Please help! Trying to avoid having to spend a lot of money at the "stealership".

what is a piston?

I also own 2003 toyota 4 runner and I've been experiencing the same thing. What is a piston? The burning smell is always in the rear part of the truck. I also don't wanna pay alot to get it checked if its something simple. This has only started happening recently.

The piston(s) is/are what pushes the brake pads against the brake rotors to stop your vehicle.

How can I fix the problem? This sounds like the problem with my Toyota, is it easy to do by myself (actually I can have my husband do it).
