This is an 03 highlander with u140f trans. Would not go forward over 5mph. After shutting off and restarting would start out ok, then quickly seem to get stuck between 1 and 2. Was making a terrible growling noise at idle in park.

Only had fault for lock up solenoid.
Tested solenoids and the 1-2 wouldn't click when energized so replaced it.

When all back together the truck went forward when put into reverse. Removed valve body and rechecked if something was installed incorrectly.

Fluid level ok, battery at full charge. When hooked to scanner, the tcm does show reverse being engaged when put in reverse, also can see when put in park.

Both neutral and reverse go forward when accelerating.

Can roll when in neutral when truck off.

But.... after several tests of in and out of reverse (not moving) trans began a lovely metal shred noise:(

I think I answered my own question haha.

I had that problem when i changed out solenoids. Turns out I forgot to put the shift linkage back in the shift plunger properly. Dropping that pan two days in a row is a giant PITA. After I dropped the valve body enough to get the linkage shaft between the two shift plunger flanges and got everything back together and refilled the trans worked great. U140E BTW
