Has anyone found a way to short the e brake sensor on the GPS or use other means to view DVD playback and enter navigation information while driving in the 08's?? I really want front screen playback and touch screen functionality while driving like I had on my Pioneer AVIC

Why would you want to look at a DVD movie or enter information on the GPS Navigation while driving. There is many States and Provinces in Canada that are talking about making laws against the use of those technologies and even cell phones while driving. That is the reason why they block the usage of it.

There is so much thing that could get your attention while driving and I don't think that we should put more stuff that requires the drivers attention from driving. :bump:

Think about it. Would you risk your children's (if any) life for the pleasure of looking at a movie while driving?

Now that was a good reply! Let's see, how does the saying go, if you don't have anything good to say...

BillJr, there have been questions about that in the past, you may want to search for them. So far, I don't think anyone has come up with a defeat for the '08s yet, but there are defeats out there for the older HLs. There's even a web site out there that sells defeats for the different vehicle... just can't remember the site right now.

Thanks DeWat... I appreciate a legit answer....

me and my lady always take long road trips and for the guy who asked, she used to love sitting in the front while watching a DVD on our Pioneer AVIC and also helped enter in the nav points for me while driving. So theres my reason peterfreedom.... besides, if its something I want, who are you to question me?

Anywho, I would love to find out if anyone discovers a known workaround for this, email me at hotmail plus my posting name.

Sorry for being rude BillJr106

Sorry BillJr106. I was a little rough with you! I still think that having a film playing while driving could be disturbing even if this is your girlfriend who is watching it but I can understand your point.

Same thing for the Navigation system. If she can use it without asking you all the time how to operate it (because this a toy for guys) then you will be safe.

I used a Garmin Nuvi for work lately and the guy supposed to operated it, while I'm driving, was always asking how to operate it while he was keeping it in his hand. I was continuously disturb by that and I finally ask him to turn it off because i preferred to use my sens of direction instead of having false instructions from someone who can't use the GPS.

Hope you will find your solution.

Thanks I appreciate it. I feel it should be as easy as shorting the ebrake, and see that there is a site that makes a "Lockpick" for 07's and older, and even for the 08' Lexus GX ( which is essentially the same vehicle ). So I am hoping we will soon see something that unlocks this thing soon.

I am really starting to miss my Pioneer AVIC. I was thinking about ripping out this GPS and putting in the AVIC Z, but then I lose the bluetooth, the maintenance log, and other good stuff....

Dear BillJr,
You are not alone in the lowly fight to entertain your fore cabin passengers while in motion.
I too have been looking for a work around with this problem since November and have spoke with a few reps of different companies and they assured me that they are working on a solution to our problem. I was promised that we will be in full entertainment just in time for the summer road trips.

P.S. The products I am mentioning are not gonna be available in Canada.

I found this thread in the Camry forum and I was able to successfully do what you are talking about for my 08 HL by following the instructions. Hope it works for you as well. I don't have the DVD playback, I was just after the bluetooth and GPS settings while moving so that my wife could change them while we were driving.

Do we lose any features doing this ????
The only thing that I see different so far is that I have to push the I Agree screen every time I start the vehicle. No real big deal, but a pain compared to not having to push it. The extra features are well worth it. I can always stick my original disc back and reverse the procedure if I want to go back to normal.

Wanted to Warn People!!

Avoid the disc being sold on EBAY for 99$. It claims to be a gen 5 disc that corrects all disabled features including the DVD while driving issue. It does correct the phone, destination input, and a few others, but does not allow front seat viewing of a rear dvd player. As far as I can tell, there is no fix for this yet.

Voice commands still work while driving...

When I was test driving my Highlander, I mentioned my displeasure with having Toyota disable manual navigation while moving and I was told that you could still use the voice commands while in motion. It's still annoying that Toyota forces the passenger to speak commands rather than manually enter them while driving but this method also allows the driver to safely use the system.

I haven't actually tried this yet but I assume the dealer didn't lie to me about this....
