Hard Tonneau Lids

I'm looking at a Snuglid for my '04. From your experience what are the pros and cons to this setup? I've heard that it turns the bed into a sweatbox. Hear are some questions I have.

Are they easy to remove and reinstall?

Do they really save on gas milage?

Is it realy worth the money, considering they are almost the price of a cap?

Which brand is best? Snugtop, ARE (Have not heard good things about Leer.)

Thanks for any info you may have. :)

I couldn't get rid of mine fast enough

When I bought my '99 I listened to my wife and bought a hard cover so she could see better. I just should have known better. Sure, I could see better but it the worst of all worlds when it comes to storage. Plus when it was open it was so high the wife couldn't reach it to close it (I have a stock 4x4 TRD.)

The worst problem is that it is impossible to put anything taller than, what 16" (don't remember exactly). This really limits your storage capacity. Second, unless you change your tailgate latch, it isn't really secure. Third, sure if pops off but you need another guy to help.

I was lucky, I worked with a guy with the same era and color truck and bought it from me. I bought a topper. But if you want the lower cover try one like this:

Yes, but they are bulky, you need a buddy.

No, they do not. The low pressure in an open bed, with a tailgate does about the same at highway speed.

No, I hated mine, see above.

Good luck with what you decide.
What a pain in the neck if ya gotta move a couch or something................ A shame about the Leers.........I was about to settle on a Leer model 100R canopy for my 97 reg cab 4x. Oh well......back to the drawing board:clap:
I have a soft tonneau and my neighbor has a hard cover. The soft if far more versitile. If I had to choose between a hard cover and a cap I would go with a cap, otherwise I feel a soft tonnea is the way to go.
Personally, my favorite option is a soft-top canopy link the one made by Bestop. It is there when you need it, and it easily folds down when you don't. As soon as I have enough spare cash, I'll be investing in one myself.
I like my Snug top, its good cause i play a lot of sports and i just throw my stuff in the bed then lock it and not have to worry about it just sitting out in the bed without a top. But ya they come off easy i havnt had any problems with it, They get a little warm inside ya, but i've had some people under the lid (lol) and they said its not that bad of a ride.
Thanks for the advice guys. :) I think I'll stick to the original plan and get a Snugtop highliner with roof rack.
