I'm about to gorilla glue this darn thing! I tried Velcro under the lip but the heat loosened the adhesive. I'm tired of it sliding around, especially when I get an unknowing passenger and they lean on it. I'm not about to spend the big $$$ that Toyota wants to replace it.

I'm driving down the road and hit the brake, it slides forward. I come to a stop sign, it slides forward. I'm driving down the road and the passenger moves, it slides forward. If nothing else, it's very distracting. It seems that I'm always trying to keep it in place.

I could see annoying/ inconvenient. I don't see a huge "safety" issue with a sliding armrest. Both hands "should" be on the wheel according to all the safety "experts" anyway.
Anywho, I hope you find a fix for it.

Our 2010 Camry Hybrid has the sliding armrest and it takes quite a bit of effort to slide it forward or back. Five years of use and it still stays put where we want it.

If it slides that easily around, it sounds like it may be a loose screw or bolt. The console in my 2010 XLE takes a bit of force to slide around (not excessive, but not so little that it slides around during braking/acceleration).

As far as I understand you do not want it in the forward position.

Can you just slide it back and stick something like a piece of a sand paper or a strip of a emery cloth between the slides to hold the armrest there?

Good luck,

Sam

You are correct, I do not want it forward. I was able to remove the top part from the slide and there is a little metal tab in there that rides on a plastic track, I bent the metal to give it more pressure but it made no difference. I thought that it would give me a more positive latch in the forward or backward position. I think that is what they did on the updated version but the design of this one wouldn't tighten it up.

I know that this is an old thread but, I'm glad I found it. I thought it was just me. My console slides very easy. Sometime it hit drinks and everything. Does anyone know if there is an screw for tightening the slide?

On my 2011 XLE it slides easy also... and the clamp lock to keep it shut was damaged by the previous owner.... It is rather annoying.
