Has Anyone ever tried? (6 disc changer conversion)

First - I would like to say, I have searched the forums for my answer and do not think I have found the answer I am looking for.

I have a 2002 Camry SE with the stock single disc headunit. I have aquired a 6 disc changer and fully intend on figuring out how to install it. I would like the flexability of having the 6 disc changer, while maintaining the stock look.

I understand that most people think that you need the amp and wiring of the JBL system to install a JBL 6 disc Changer headunit.

My Questions:
  • Has anyone ever tried to direct wire the 6 disc JBL, with out using the factory wiring harness.
  • I understand if you want to use the factory wiring harness, you need the amp. But if you wire it in direct, would you not be able to bypass the need for the JBL amp while using the stock non-JBL speakers?
If anyone has any constructive input as to how I can direct wire this headunit to my 2002 Camry without causing any damage. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks - Kevin

No, any premium Head Unit from Toyota will require the factory or aftermarket amp. If you have a aftermarket amp, then a module will be required to convert the signal to low level. The six disk changer you ask about has no amplifier. The signal is digital and the amp converts it to a analog low level, and then usable wattage.

WOW! That is very good information. What if I aquire the amp too? Could I then direct wire the speakers to the amp?

Sorry I am not giving up on the issue. I just really want to be able to use this disc changer.

Thanks - Kevin
I thought it was impossible to wire the toyota JBL head unit to an after market amp.

is there a harness or module to do this?
so you would need the amp that came along with the 6 disc changer?
I am also interested in this issue. I have an 2007 Camry LE with the standard single cd non-JBL head unit. I purchased the JBL 6-CD unit and the JBL amp. After a lot of research, it looks like that I need a wiring harness to connect the JBL amp to the JBL HU and then connect to the vehicle.

There is a site oemvalue.com that claims that there is a "jumper-harness" available somewhere, but they are not answering my emails.

Anyone have any success at trying this?

Thanks in advance....
