Its Lucas Trany Fix

Car specs: 93' 4 door Camry, with 95' 5sfe, Automatic.

As of 2 days ago my trany started sliping, one moring I placed the car in "R" and it just did not move. I tried to time how long it took it to shift from "N" to "D" and it was only 1-2 seconds/mississippies but when I go "N" to "R" the car did not go at all.

I checked the Trany fluid, it did need some so I added it. Now it will go in reverse but after a looong time. I basicaly placed the car in reverse and rev engine to 1500 rpms and it will slightly start moving back (only did that once). now I just place the car in "R" and let it sit until it starts moving on its own. But as of this morning its just sitting in the garage and im driving my truck:disappoin (my $300/per month in gas truck).

I think this:

* Line presure too low (Lucas can proly fix)
* Direct Clutch worn (bad trany)
* First and Reverse Bake worn (bad Trany)
* O/D Clutch worn (bad trany)

I was wondering if you guys have ever tried this Lucas thing, and if it realy works? or if you have any experience with my prob and found a diff solution than a new trany, becuase im not looking foward to a trany swap.

I think the reverse gear going is the first sign that your transmission is dying. My sister has a mazda with no reverse but its been like that for a year now. I happened because she didnt have adequate transmission fluid for a long time. I saw save up your money for a used transmission (from a junkyard ~$300) and get ready for the worst. You may get away with it for a long time but you will have to learn how to park knowing you dont have reverse.

It doesn't hurt to change the transmission fluid and add lucas. It's a $20 procedure that may buy you some time.

Story time, about 5 years ago I had my tranny serviced because it was slipping from first to second. (Change fluid and drop pan) People there showed me some metal shavings in my pan and said my tranny was dying, cost to rebuild was $1200. I was in highschool and didn't have the money so I just drove it because after the service it didn't slip as much. This was at 130,000.

I starting changing the fluid twice each year and adding transmedic every other change. My car now has 207,000 miles on it and it slips less than at 130,000.

Moral of the story, just try to change the fluid and add some additives. It doesn't cost much, and it'll buy you time so you can save up for new tranny or car.
