Headlight Help Corolla 08

hi, i just bought my new corolla 08 and i want to replace the stock headlights bulbs with xenon HID. i wanted something kinda legal, but illegal is okay too. my friend said something about i need a certain type of bulb. like a h3 or h4. which one do i need?

im new to cars, so i dont really know how to install a ballast and other mods. is there a way i can make the HID bright without installing a ballast and other things that are needed? ( i want to only replace the bulbs)

whats the difference between halogens and HIDs?
