This thing has been annoying me for weeks now. Only my lowbeams work, or only my high beams. But i think its the lowbeams only. Heres the symptoms: I turn the headlight switch to turn on the lows. The running lights go on and I hear the relay click for the lows, but they dont go on. When I push the lever for the highs, the lights go on. But I think only the lows are actually going on. So the headlights only go on when I put the highs on. If all lights are off and I PULL the lever for the highs MOMENTARY, the headlights go on. And yes of course I've tried new bulbs. THe connectors are in perfect shape.
These headlights are designed so that there are two filaments in each bulb, with 3 connectors. Power is sent to the middle connector, and for the lows, one of the side connectors is grounded. Then for the highs, both are grounded. This completes the circuit and turns on both filaments producing 65 watts of light. I've checked the relays, both fuses, and today I just bought a nice new (well, used) headlight/blinker/wiper switch assembly, and alas, the headlights still wont work right. So while its possible both the old switch and this new one are bad, I highly doubt it. That leaves all options out except for the wiring harness itself, for a hidden fuse box I can't find. I have this shop manual and I looked up the fuse box locations and chassis electrical schematics. I found two fuses for the headlights, and that's what the schematic shows. But then in the fusebox illustration it shows this extra fuse box, supposedly in the engine compartment, with a fuse each for the high beams and low beams, 2 for each headlight. But I can't find the mystery fusebox anywhere. The only explanation for that I can think of is, this manual was made for both US and Canada models, and they forgot to label that fusebox for canada only models. In the other schematics drawings for canadian models, it shows the two fuses per headlight. So I really can't think of anything else wrong besides something amiss in the wiring harness.
Btw, if it helps, when I put the high beams on and the headlights go on, the highbeam indicator on the dash doesnt go on. The bulb for the indicator is fine.
ANY help AT ALL would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm trying to get it fixed before I have to go for inspection. Its driving me nuts. Every logical and valid explanation I have for it turns out to be wrong.
Thanks
