Heater Cleaning Info Needed

I was in AZ, NV this weekend and it was COLD. So I cranked up the heater and got sprayed with tree leaf shrapnel out the ducts. Real smelly stuff. YUK! :thumbdown
So how do I get in there to cleanit out? It's a 87 pick up with no A/C.
