Hey Everyone! Picked up my new Tacoma this morning. Went for a good drive today just to get to know her a bit better. Showed her to a couple friends and they were pretty impressed.
One of the guy's was looking at the power outlet and thought it was a great idea.
Now what I am wondering is what do you use it for and how do you like the system? I bet some people will have some pretty creative ideas about this!

Before the July 4th fireworks show started, my bro and I sat in the back of the bed and played Xbox using the outlet. We had a big crowd of kiddies watchin us play.

I've heard of people powering up to 27" TVs, circular saws and lights.

But for bigger stuff like using an electric skillet for tailgating, I plug into my in-cab 750 watt inverter.

:D

It's pretty much pointless. If it worked with the engine off it would be more useful. You can't power saws off of it. Saws are more than 400 Watts. Most are 1000 watts or more.

You can charge batteries for cordless drills, but only while driving. I guess when I go camping I can bring/????? what? A TV? Who wants to run the motor in the car to watch tv on a tv using an antenna?

I am sure that I'll use it a few times. ON the other hand you can buy a more powerful inverter from walmart for like $25.

I like having the inverter built in.

However, I find that it is of little use because there is no outlet in the cab. I keep a PC with me always and have wireless Internet, as a mater of fact I am posting from my truck right now. Because there is no outlet in the cab I use my trusty plug in inverter that I have carried with me for years that plugs into the lighter plug.

You don't have to do it while the engine is running. Just turn the key to Run, and you can turn on the inverter. It puts out 400 watts with the engine off or at idle. Once you start driving it limits you to 100 watts.

You'd think it would be the opposite, since the alternator puts out more while driving.

I hooked up a hair dryer to it to remove a dealer decal and it killed it lol. I've been curious to see what works.
Same here.. I hooked the hair dryer up to loosen the foam gasket between the third brake light housing( to run my siruis antenna) and the cab and the hair dryer kept dying. :disappoin

I've been thinking this for a while,,,

I use my TACO for work in construction! I am thinking having a small microwave in the bed if I can get 1000w+ from the power outlet hooking an inverter to it, so I can warm up my lunch in a minuite anywhere I go or work!! It'll be good for camping and stuff too, huh? ;)

For 1000 watts, you'd have to buy a big aftermarket inverter, and power it with a pretty hefty power wire coming straight off the battery. Don't try to power an inverter that big off of the cigarette lighter plugs.

I tried a circular saw once. It didn't put out enough power. The most useful thing I've used it for was to power my garage door opener after Katrina when we were without power for 5 days.

Thanks Pb2theMax. Yea you're right. since i'm not good at electronics stuff, I did some search and found a good site about converters.http://www.donrowe.com/inverters/inverter_faq.html#size

So, that mean, I can only run small stuff such laptop computers, radio, so on unless I hook up fat cables to the battery and a converter each time I want to have a warm lunch,,,:ugh3:

This is not cool, is it?

Do you know that the more you use the power from the battery, the faster the battery dies? Wrong?

Not too sure about a fridge

cool, I can hook up my kegerator and keep the beer nice and ice cold. :whatwhat:
The probelem with a fridge is, It may very well pull 50 watts at a constant load, but what about when the compressor initally kicks on? The amp/watt spike may be large enough to trip the breaker. ex: when the ac kicks on in your house, you know how the lights dim? Same principle..... Good luck!!!:whatwhat:

Just finished putting ceramic tile in both my bathrooms. I used th outlet to power a Rotozip with a diamond wheel to cut backer board as well as the tile. It worked great and kept the dust away from my garage. I don't know how many watss this pulls though.
