I have the same problem. Aftermarket parts shops don't have it and there are only used ones on ebay.

I asked the same question on here six months ago (2000 LE). The only answer I got was to try one and see if it works. I found that to be a rather disappointing answer, since if it didn't work, what else might get screwed up? I haven't tried any, and the question obviously still lingers. :headbang:

Is there any other source that you can think of that might definitively provide an adequate answer? The dealers aren't interested because all they want is to sell new canisters. They aren't happy that we don't want to get ripped off.

I finally was able to "rebuild/clean" the rust out of the vsv piston, and got it to function again. The dealer said I needed a new canister which was total BS..

But I still want to know whether vsv's from other cars would work. I would buy a used one on Ebay, but I can't find one for my Corolla. They all appear to be for 4Runners, Camrys, Suzukis and pickups, and I'm not willing to risk it at this point.

The question we've asked deserves an answer, so I guess I'll just have to keep trolling forums til I find it.

I know this post doesn't help anyone, but at least I feel better after venting.

I also tried to rebuilt the vsv. I took it apart and unseized
the little piston that was rusted.

Put it back together and could not get the selenoid
to energize !

Oh well the saga continues.
The purge valve(25860-22020) for a 1999 Corolla is $131.64 MSRP. Some of you may have seen that I sell to TN members for 30% off MSRP which would make it $92.15. I only charge actual shipping costs plus $2.00 for materials etc. To Canada, you would have to be responisible for duties and taxes.

I looked into your post and the ones below yours and I just want to clarify that their is a separtate vsv on the canister and would come with the canister and there is the purge valve that is up in the engine area. Just so we are talking about the same valve.

I also looked, and by part number, this valve is specific to 98-99 corolla. This, as you have discovered, adds to the challenges to find one from a source other than a dealer. My first thought and instinct is to say I doubt one from another Toyota will work. I could be wrong, but I don't think it that they exist.

Hi Gary:

Thanks for your input.

Do you have any connections at Toyota with a technician or engineer to whom you could pose the question about using different VSV's on Corollas, or on Camrys for that matter. These are all 12 volt systems, and the inches of vacuum have to be similar. They really are nothing more than on/off switches.

I bet a Toyota tech or engineer could provide a definitive answer. Unfortunately, I don't know any.

Peter
Unfortunately, I do not. Sorry
