Hi guys, I figure some of you would know this. The fan only works on high, and I've heard its the resistor for the blower. Where is this little bugger?

FSM (factory service manual) & owners manuals can be acquired in several ways:

Toyota Material Distribution Center
750 West Victoria St
Rancho Dominguez/Compton, CA 90220-5538
USA
Ph:1-800-622-2033 (outside CA)(M-F: 7-5 PST)
Ph:1-800-443-7656 (inside CA)
Ph:1-310-818-4630 (in or outside CA)
Speak to Beverly or Deloris

http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/FSM.shtml

1)buy a used one off e-bay
2)some Toyota dealerships may give you one or sell it for $10-20 (used) as most Toyota dealerships don't repair many old Toyotas and no longer need the service manual
3)some public libraries sell their old books as they are not in demand any longer
4)some free buy & sell classified papers, websites and bulletin boards may have some used ones for sale
5)some junk yards may have one laying around
6)some Toyota specialty garages may have one laying around and no longer use it as the vehicle may be too old and those mechanics probably have so much experience that they could publish their own factory service manual with corrections and "real world repair tips"
7)if someone has the FSM maybe they could scan all of the pages and post it on a site for all of us to download or view.

Wow, thanks for the help. I'm picking it up tonight.... it messes up my hair on full blast!:naughty:
I replaced mine a couple of weeks ago. In my 89 it is inside the cab, passenger side footwell, up a bit on the firewall. Easy to get to with a screwdriver, no disassembly of anything required.
perfect! thanks for that. The resistor should be in tonight.
Be careful. Does your blower make any funny noises? I know from working on my Volvo (where this is a common problem) that a bad sticky blower motor will draw excess voltage and blow the resister again and again. If this is the case then its way cheaper to put in a new blower motor and only one resister. Good luck.
Where do you get the resistor? How much? I am trying to find a better price. Autozone or AdvancedAutoParts has it for $45~$50.

These two Toyota dealerships sell the resistor for almost $10 for the 1st part # and almost $30 for the second:

Damn! I paid $45 plus tax at my local dealership.
yeah, I bought mine at partsource, although it wasnt in last night. It was roughly $40 or so.

The blower sounds fine from what I can tell. Its smooth, although doesnt produce as much heat as Id though. It was REALLY cold last night though. They were talking -30(ish) C!!!!! Ive had enough of this winter.
$33 at O'reily's and 5 minutes to put it in. Thanks to all on here because I was ready to replace the switch.
does anyone know where the blower motor resistor is located on a 1996 tacoma
Not sure if it is on the passenger side kick panel or on the passenger side near the center of the dash. But it is very close to the evap case. I have attached a link to an illustration for your reference. I hope it helps.

dealer wanted $88 for mine. I got a $35 one from the parts store and now my heater goes off-slow-fast-slowish-fastest at least I got all the speeds!
