So i woke up one morning and some bastard stole my catalytic converter off my prerunner!!! They straight up unbolted it without setting off my alarm!

Anyways... i need help guys... i need a new/used CAT. Its for my 1997 Toyota PreRunner 2.7L 3MRZ-FE motor. Anyone have one used or can help me source a new one? I wanna get a replacement without going to the dealership and spending $$$ BTW, i live in CA. Whats up with all these company's refusing to ship to CA? Are CA cats different due to their emission standards? Anyways, any help will be GREATLY appreciated! Thanxs!!

Check the junkyards first.
All cat's are removed at the junkyard.. not legal for sale... :(
Hit up google and search for Catco catalytic converter. They are about $125.

i tired... but they all refuse to ship to CA or what not cause of CA's gay smog laws.... wtf... Anybody know where else i can source a OBDII cat? If no used ones out there, i guess im going to get it from ultimateyota.com
I guess this has become a real problem lately. The tweekers steal them and then take them to the scrapyard and recycle them. Same thing just hapenned to my buddy. Sucks dude.

They prob. don't pay all that much. even if they only get $5 for one they'll take it. Unfortunately, my city is infested with tweekers, they're everywhere like roaches. They broke into my work truck a coupla years back and stole about $350 worth of tools and some copper. They take the $350 worth of tools sell them at the swap meet for $50. They take $200 worth of copper to the scrapyard and end up with $45. It's all profit when you're a tweeker without a job.:thumbdown
i've actually heard that because of the platinum thats in the there, they can get around $60 for used cats

Parts are 25% off, better than your local stealer.

Mad props to humanoid! Thanxs for the link and i got my catalytic converter thru Carrie. Very cool girl btw!

So the cat OEM is: $756.01 but with the $20% off discount i got it for $567.00, $2.60 for 2 gaskets, and $3 bucks for OEM nuts + bolts. So all in all, it cost me $575.12 In parts and ~$15 bucks to ship. Total of $590.12 instead of the OEM price of $756.01.

Yes this sucks ASS that i had to pay clos to $600 unexpectedly.... now i hafta find a way to weld a metal frame around my cat so they can't steal that shiet anymore!!!

You got lucky. My cat got cut our with a hacksaw. Not much you can do about that. Welding the flanges won't even slow them down. My problem is that they jerked the sensor on the cat away from the wires. Now I've got a CEL. Anyone know how to splice the wires to trick the ECU into thinking that everything is OK?
Just had my CAT stolen off my pre-runner Sunday morning, right out in front of my apartment (a gated complex with night security). Lucky me mine was just unbolted, the f*cker just left the bolts on the ground and walked off.
So many of them are being stolen in Phoenix that the cops just called me to file the report rather than drive over. The cop also told me that one was sawed off at Metro Mall (2 miles from my apartment) in broad daylight the same day!

I was hoping to buy some new BF goodwrench's, now its a new CAT and a very loud car alarm!

Why didn't you just go to a muffler shop and have one put on? I removed the cat off of my 05 Ford diesel when I bought it new. I just sold my 05 in march, and I went to have the cat put back on. The guy at the muffler shop told me it was a $10,000 fine for him if he got caught putting my old cat back on. He told me he could only put a brand new CA certified cat back on the truck. He told me a new one was $425. I left and found another shop that was willing to put it back on.
Just for curiosity sake, call some muffler shops in your area and get a quote for a new one installed. I would not call the large companies like Midas, because they are usually pretty high priced.
I have these Magnaflow highflow cats which are a direct fit for your specific vehicle. They go for $130.00 + shipping.
